Hmm, I think she should get a chance as the 3rd member of the squad behind Anne and Naomi with Claire as the doubles specialist. Her Fed Cup record last year was excellent and she'd give Nigel Sears several options for the doubles.  Bally's got an excellent partnership with Claire having won 4/4 rubbers last year (even winning against a Slovak team which contained Hantuchova !) and Anne won a 25K title with Claire earlier this year.

Georgie Stoop will surely be a member of the team soon but it's a year too early to pick her at the moment.

Mel's  been doing really well in doubles but (and I've found out it's only a 4 player squad) you really need the 3rd player to be able to cover singles-wise in  case one of the top two get injured and Mel's singles form has been poor...just 1 win all year.
