Redding 25K - 2007.

Let's hope they're rivals at the top in the not to distant future!

Horribly late I know but I just wanted to add my two cents worth...

I don't think Naomi should be too disappointed with this loss, very few players in either the mens or womens games do well the week after a title win and so long as she gets back to the winning ways at her next tournament I don't think we should worry.

As for a womens' ranking thread in terms of a 'live ranking' as is done for the men's I personally don't have the time to do it (and I doubt Rob, Madeline or Guy do either) on top of the mens so someone else would have to volunteer. I'd be happy to explain how I do it and send a template spreadsheet but I'm not too sure about the differences between the mens and womens ranking systems so that might be less helpful than it sounds. At the very least we should have a more up-to-date top 10 thread.

Naomi on the match:

"It was a tough match, as she was playing well after having a great start to the year. The first set was very competitive but wasn't a great standard of tennis. The wind was swirling and it was very cold, and both of us were struggling. She managed to find her form and took a 5-3 lead. I fought hard to get it back to 5-5 and then took the next 2 games and the set. She started the second set with much more aggression and took me by surprise and took an early 3-1 lead. I tried to stay with her but couldn't get back in the set and she levelled it taking the set 6-3.

I was struggling wth my serve throughout and she was hitting it well off the ground so I constantly found myself on the back foot. She gained confidence and momentum and I couldn't find a way back in and lost the 3rd set 6-2. I was dissapointed with the result but I was happy that I kept going with my new style of play even though I wasn't executing it as well as I had the previous week. I still have a lot of confidence going into the next tournament in Miami, but it is going to be tough as 12 girls are fighting for a very big prize.

Great stuff (and great grammar) from Naomi as always.

De Brito worries me a bit more now. She may well take the title next week.

How's Naomi's return? De Brito's serve is far away from well developed. If she can take advantage of that there's no reason as to why she can't beat her.

Hendler is in awesome form, too.
