Interesting one, guess you're referring to the wildcards ?

Imo, Naomi and Georgie have to get main draw wildcards. Both have made massive ranking surges over the past 12 months. Georgie's record against top 150 players is so far unproven but Naomi will definately be one of our best chances of a British player winning a round, great game for grass and she can beat top 150 girls. Last year she came close to beating a top 100 player and showed that she could live with a top 20 player so a year on, who knows....With a good draw, she might even have a Bally-style run.

Anne will get one automatically if she's inside top 150, is that right ?

I'd give Bally one, grass is her best surface and I feel that if she gets a run of 2-3 years with no injuries (unlikely I know ), she will make top 100. She will have the best chance of taking advantage of a good draw against a clay-courter/someone outside top 50 and on her day she could trouble some of the seeds.

The final one is tough to decide on...Mel and Sarah both have all those points to defend so it would be a bit harsh not to give either a wildcard. I'd give it to Sarah atm as her form's been better so far this year.

That leaves Katie, Mel, Amanda and Jane as the main contenders in the wc playoff. If Mel, Katie and Amanda don't win it then they'll get DAs in the qualies so qualies wildcards will go:

Jane (if she doesn't win), Anna Smith, Natasha Khan, Anna Fitzpatrick, Karen Paterson, Jade Windley (if Jane wins)

Naomi earned wild cards for the next two years by what she did last time . Georgie deserves one, too. Keothavong will be our number one for a few months (at least) and will get it.

You've got to give it to Bally as she's top 100 material and has won quite a few rounds in Slams.

Tough to decide between Borwell and Mel. South has been frustrating during the last few months, but her win last year was better and she is a good deal younger than Borwell, so she gets the nod.

I guess that they'll waste a main draw wild card on Wozniacki?

Qualy wild cards: O'Donoghue, Paterson, Natasha Khan, Anna Smith, Naomi Broady. Fitzpatrick if O'Donoghue gets a main draw one.

Broady may be a gamble and if she doesn't do much between now and June, you can always give it to Paterson or Fitzpatrick.

Why do you rate Becki Fong so highly tennisbrain ? Just interested, I've never seen her but her results over the last 10 months have been disappointing.

training at Sutton should benefit her, they have excellent facilities there.

I was just surprised you chose her ahead of Paterson, Fitzpatrick etc

Interesting that no one has chosen Llewellyn or Coles so far

MD

Anne K
Amanda K (great game for grass)
Stoop
Cavaday
(some Australian)

Qualies

Windley
Smith
Fitzpatrick
O Donoghue
Coles

My guess is that Mel, Katie and Sarah could get qualies draw by ranking...

Requirement for Qualie WC:

a) you can compete with top 300 players, as evidenced by recent results
b) you aren’t currently in the top 300 as you are young and on the way up, or have been injured.

Jade certainly comes under b. As for a, I think she might have a little to do on a-she’s doing great, but hasn’t competed at quite that level yet. But she has made great use of her WC to date, so with some more progress, I think it is sensible to talk about her.

As a comparator, Jade C has been given qualie WC in the past.

Jade C made the semis of the WC Playoff which normally gets a qualifying WC.

If its 5 for the maindraw, based on results up to this point.

Anne Keothavong
Katie O'Brien
Naomi Cavaday
Georgie Stoop
Amanda Keen/Sarah Borwell who evers higher or in better form

Quallifying

Bally
Sarah Coles( if she can get any decent form like she had last year)
Natacha Khan
Anna Smith
Anna Fitzpatrick
Jane O'Donhague

If Sarah Coles is still off then put in Karen.

Mel would get into qualifying off her own ranking as would the left overs from MD.

Surely if Bally is fit enough for a qualies wild card, she should get a mian draw wild card. If she is fit, there is no question for me that she deserves a place in the main draw. Can't really conceive a situation in which she gets one for qualies.

I've been a big fan of the Amanda K relaunch, and I think she's done great in the last 10 months-very impressed.

But I wouldn't prioritize either her or Sarah B this time-they are 28 and 29. Less chance of making the top 100 now. For me, they can fight it out int he WC tournie.

So for me

Anne K, Georgie, Naomi, Bally are my four musts.

Katie, Mel S as next pair, in that order.

Copy of the reply on the men's section:
Recently the rules for WCs for Wimbledon have been:

* Ranking of 150 or under gets a WC
* Mens ranking of 300 or under gets a WC as long as they have not been given 3 or more WC for Wimbledon in the past. (Women have a cut off for this of 275)
* Winner of play off gets a WC
* Usually the best junior not included above gets a WC too

This gives Women's WCs to:
South
Keen
Borwell
Stoop

With the WC play off top seeds being:
Keothavong
O'Brien
Llwellyn
Cavaday
