Jersey is going to have it's own challenger next year. It'll be held in February/March and will be a 35K.
Tournament director Hugh Raymond said: 'We've got the venue and facilities so providing it fits in with the LTA programme we will get the approval to host the event - we're 90 per cent there.
'Roger Draper has been very positive as have the other LTA representatives - we're virtually home and dry.
'The finalised plans will be made by the LTA by the middle of May - it's a very exciting prospect for Jersey.'
Speaking to Draper, the Chief Executive of the LTA, before the announcement he said: 'Players have said to me this week that this is one of the best tournaments in Britain.
'We're looking at a challenger $35,000 event here and aside from some small changes, there's no reason why that can't happen - there is a lot of potential here.'
Draper, who also got the chance to tour some of the Island's tennis clubs added: 'I'm blown away with how passionate and committed everyone is - there's a real positive buzz around tennis here and there is a real platform now for development.'
Nope, I think that it's an extra challenger. We'll now have 4 in the first half of 2008: Wrexham, Jersey, Cardiff and Surbiton. The first three will be 35Ks and I think Surbiton will be a 75K.

Cost of getting and staying there is a lot higher than other GB tourneys. A lot of players probably decided it wasn't worth it for just 1 week.
However, the facilities in Jersey for players and spectators are top-class. The tournament coverage with the daily press releases rates just behind Surbiton and Manchester imo.
Re clay challenger: That was an interesting debate which we had last year. People felt that it'd just be offering easy points to Spaniards and South Americans and that our guys wouldn't really benefit as they'd mostly go out in rd1.
I think it'd be good now as it'd be a great warm-up for RG qualies for Boggo, Mackin and Baker - our 3 players with the best chance of winning some qualies there. All 3 have the games to do well on clay and could get to the quarters or further in a clay challenger. Wildcards could go to some our top clay-court specialists like Morgan Phillips and James Ward.
