well done Slabba I hope he can string a few wins together and get back into enjoying it (and winning) although the number 4 seed probably has different ideas...

It keeps up the good run in doubles that the Brits are having all over the place recently, and an outside chance at the title I suppose
Alex really ought to play more doubles, he's only ever played a handful of doubles tourneys, never with a regular partner and he's still managed to make two futures finals. If he played doubles regularly, he'd be top 500 easily.
Problem is that you get paid virtually nothing for doubles successes at futures level and financially it just isn't worth it, to pay out extra hotel costs for the doubles, once you're out of the singles.

Lol, I'm feeling the pressure from you chasing me Arks I need to make posts like that to stay ahead !
I'm going to be on holiday and without access to a computer from 3rd-10th April, so you'll have a big chance to make some inroads on the approx 11500 post difference between us
R2: Alex Slabinsky WR 780 v (4) Niels Desein (BEL) WR 532
I don't feel very confident about this one, Desein made a massive rankings leap in 2006. Maybe on a faster surface Alex would have a better chance but Desein seems at home on the Portuguese hard...hammered a Brazilian clay-courter ranked in the 600s 6-1, 6-2 in rd1.
Like Alex, his best result so far this year is a futures quarter-final. On the futures circuit in 2006, he won his first futures title and also racked up 4 semis.
Re: the doubles - I heard that if you get through the tournament with byes and w/o's they have the right to withdrwaw either the money or the points. They still need to record a win in the competition...
