In the US, meanwhile, Naomi Cavaday is through to the second round of the $25,000 ITF event in Orange, California.
Cavaday beat fellow qualifier Canadian Valerie Tetreault 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.
Cavaday won three rounds of qualifying to make it into the main draw and plays third seed Abigail Spears of the US in the second round on Thursday morning.
Cavaday is spending two months in the US where she will play five tournaments.
The Kent left-hander spent 10 days working with coach David Felgate at the Nick Bollettieri academy in Florida and three days in Indian Wells preparing for the Orange event where she practised with Czech world No.10 Nicole Vaidisova.
Where does this take her up to in the rankings? What was the cut for Roland Garros qualies last year?
It will give her a minimal rise in the rankings, but it will help replace the points she's losing this week from Sunderland and defend the points she's got coming off from Sheffield and Bath soon.
Roland Garros cut off was 226 but it fluctuates between 210-230.
Next up is Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico, who is ranked 168. Brandi is nowhere near her old top 50 self any more. She has reached the last four of a 50K this year, but apart from that she hasn't done anything to suggest that she's a foe beyond what Naomi can tackle.
That was an absolutely amazing win Incredible performances from Naomi this week, she has to be a serious contender for a Fed Cup place now.
Brandi's up next, ok she's now down at 165 and is nowhere near her best but she's very experienced and still has some of the class she possessed when she was top 30. Regularly wins the Surbiton Trophy, I think she's won it 3-4 times now. In rd2 she knocked out the 7th seed in 3 sets who's ranked 130. Brandi has a tricky unorthodox game, could pose Naomi a lot of problems...will be very interesting.
I spoke to Naomi last night after her win. She said "I'm really happy with the way I played today, to get that result is a great boost for me. I am starting to really feel comfortable at this level. Looking at the performance as well as the result it was definitely a career best."
"I'm working with David Felgate full-time now which is great. Having Nick Bollittieri helping aswell has been a fantastic combination. Hitting with Nicole (Vaidisova) last week was fantastic, we played a lot of points and then some games. I was really happy that I held my own in the games and it was competitive. "
"I'm looking forward to the clay season and I like playing on it as I see it as more of a challenge. I wouldn't say it's my favourite surface but I had some good results on clay last year and I feel pretty comfortable competing on it."
I just posted about Brandi in the "predictions" thread. Less than a year ago she wiped the floor with Mel South in Eastbourne, so a victory here for Naomi would be a massive indication of her status among the british women.
