3 top 100 players and 19 in the top 150 for a 25K !!!! This tourney is crazily strong.
Naomi's got an uphill battle just to qualify here, if she doesn't get through to the main draw, she'll get no points so would that mean this doesn't count towards the no of tourneys she can play before 24th April ?
Playing the Luxilon Cup would be great, it'd be good to see some brits going for that. Gives the juniors such a boost to compete alongside the world's elite.
do you think she'll play some of the big junior tourneys on European clay in April ?
Jamatthews said that it doesn't count, or I think that he said that - it's a bit too late out here and I am going to fall asleep on my keyboard very soon.
I think that Luxilon has Livescores, not sure about it. Jade was invited there last time. I'm sure that Naomi would get a call if she wants to play.
I think that she'll play one or two Juniors (in Europe or the US), but she doesn't need to - she's going to be top 300 by French Open Juniors and is guaranteed a seeding then. The Spring Championships list will be out by the 15th, so we'll know soon.
I wonder if there's a chance that she'll get a qualies wild card for Miami... Bollettieri half runs that tournament and he can get a wild card for anyone he wants. Would you believe it, Larcher De Brito is getting a main draw one!
Hmmm, I doubt Naomi feels the same way Arks. Glatch is still only 17 and in 2005 she reached a high of no 5 in the juniors and made the US Open girls final ! She also hammered Nastya P 6-2, 6-2, reached 4 straight G1 finals and when only 15, made the quarters of the Orange Bowl in 2004.
On the womens circuit, Glatch is ranked 507 but has a career best of 224 which she reached in 2005. She spent the first half of 2006 out with injury and since hasn't been able to find the same form as 2005. Only played 1 tournament this year, qualified for the Clearwater 25K before getting hammered 2 and 1 in rd1. However, she's still an incredibly talented player..easily capable of qualifying and making the latter stages here.
Wow, those are two fantastic results I have to admit, I didn't think Naomi would win either !
I know she's ranked higher than Glatch and Mircic but Glatch was an incredible player back in 2005 (reaching no 224 in womens and the top of the juniors at just 16) and 18 year old Mircic's form has been brilliant of late. At the end of February she qualified and then reached the semis of a strong 25K in Clearwater.
Final qualies round: N Cavaday (GB)(15) v Kim-Anh Nguyen (USA)
Nguyen's ranked 588, career high of 531 which she reached last August. Hasn't done much so far this year, lost in rd1 of Waikoloa 50K (got a wc) and lost in qualies for Palm Desert 25K and St Paul 50K.
However, in rd2 here she absolutely hammered the 8th seed Lauren Breadmore 6-1, 6-0 !!
Nguyen has a great record of losing in the final qualies round, lets hope it continues
So, after Redding she can play 1 more womens tournament before 24th April, right ?
Maybe she's planning to compete in one of the Bath 10Ks or one of the clay-court European 25Ks in Italy/France prior to/after the Spring championships ?
Or maybe as you suggested earlier in this thread, she's got a qualies wc for Miami ?
