Pancakes

Just wondered if anyone has some advice on how to make a really, really thick pancake ?

I'm entering the local "largest pancake" competition and want/need to make a real whopper

try to find an american pancake recipe, they're usually a lot thicker than traditional english pancakes.

Following on from that, I Googled it and it looks like American pancakes use baking powder or baking soda as a raising agent, and that's what makes them a lot thicker than our type of pancakes. Other than that it's the same ingredients.

This is rubbish, but I'll post it in any case:

RECIPE

Buttermilk Pancakes

2,700 Pounds Buttermilk Flour
600 Pounds Eggs
210 Pounds Butter
210 Gallons Water

Mix all ingredients. For best results, use 40+ grills.

Top with 4,700 pounds of butter, 450 gallons of maple syrup. Serve with 3,370 gallons of freshly brewed coffee, 1,150 gallons of juice and 1,150 gallons of milk.
To serve, use 70,000 plates, 150,000 napkins, 70,000 knives, 70,000 forks, 65,000 stirrers and 70,000 cups.

Okay Shed....American Pancakes are really big and thick....but there is this one place in Loma Linda California which serves huge pancakes....really big ones....I couldn't eat a whole one on my own after a morning of playing soccer when I was in my early 20s! No one but a fool glutton would order two as they are really big.

Here is a link with their phone number on it. I couldn't find an email addy or web page, but here is their phone. I am sure with you being English, if you called an asked for a recipe and cooking instructions being English they'd help you. I have never seen pancakes this big, but I think you'd need a grill to cook them.......they are literally bigger than the plate and over an inch thick.

With their help you'd get the real whopper you are craving! All their portions are big, kind of a cool place to eat even though Loma Linda is a healthy Uni town and some have given them heck for serving such big greasy portions.

For some reason that page didn't load....maybe it is down, but here is their name, address and phone #

24735 Redlands Blvd
Loma Linda, CA 92354
909 478-9996

They are really nice people there, I am sure they'd help you. I used to go there a couple of times a month while I lived there.
