R1: Danielle Brown (GBR) v (Q)Karen-Emilio Castiblanco-Duarte (COL)
The Columbian is an 18 year old leftie clay-courter. She's ranked about 150 places lower at 651, only had to win 1 match to qualify, that was against a Dutch player outside the top 1000. Lost her only other match this year, in qualifying for WTA Bogota. She plays entirely in South America, made three 10K quarters in 2006 but did go through a period in which she lost 7 straight matches.
A lot will probably depend on how Danielle gets used to the altitude
Danielle didn't compete last week, so she's probably already had a week training there. She's playing a series of 10Ks in Mexico. Might be joined by Rebecca Llewellyn next week
Good win for Dani, looks like it was very straightforward after that close breaker. Things get a lot tougher from now on though.
Scheepers is currently ranked 395 and has been as high as 161 (back in April 2003). She's mainly played challengers so far this year, qualifying for two 25Ks in the USA.
