Btw, I spoke to the tournament director who's a really nice guy. He's quite astonished at the amount of press interest in the tournament this year with people from this site phoning up (and also from another site - MTF I presume ?), says it's unprecedented.
I told him all about britishtennis.net, he says at the end of each day he'll email me some information about the matches.
Also, he said that there's coverage of the tournament on Jersey radio. Does anyone know how to get that ?
Thanks for the results, I look forward to the information from the Jersey tournament, glad they've offered it.
Great to see Josh win, I think this step back down the futures to kick start his season was a great idea (planned or not) and hopefully he can get to the final and meet Baker there, not sure who I'd want to win that one but I'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Is the doubles draw out yet? Hope we can have a Brit winner in both singles and doubles here - to be honest we really should be able to given the seedings.

I have emailed Jamie to see if I could get a feel on how he played in his first match. As soon as I get an answer I'll post it on here. I also emailed his coach, so hopefully we'll get a response from both.
Satisfying start for Jamie. I fully expect him to reach semis or finals here. Just keep on playing consistent tennis and getting the results he's capable of and he'll be OK.
As for Matt Smith, absolutely shocking, but encouraging to see David Brewer continue his recent good form. Other results were pretty much expected.

Unfortunately there wasn't any really useful info today, just a round-up of the results which he's sent to me and the Jersey evening post.
C'mon Bethan, you'd want Baker to win of course ! britishtennis.net contributor and one of my fav players !!
Good to see Josh and Jamie winning comfortably today Niland's a pretty solid player and he's always given Jamie tough matches so it was impressive that Josh dispatched him so emphatically ! Hard to believe that before today, Josh hadn't won a match since December ! He's been unlucky to lose so many close ones
Most of the other results were pretty much expected apart from Smith and Brewer. Smith has seemed to be coming into form over the last couple of weeks, looked like the ideal draw for him to gain another ranking point and get a shot at a seed, very surprising result. Maybe that French guy just had a pretty big game which suited the courts ?
Brilliant win for Brewer Coelho made a challenger semi and a futures final at the end of 2006, hasn't had a particularly good start to 2007 tho, just 1 win so Brewer caught him at a good time.
Looks like Bamford and Hutchins came close to pulling off shock wins. Has anyone here seen them play ? They've often given much higher ranked players close matches in the past, I'd be interested to know how high people think they could go. I've heard that Hutchins is a serve-volleyer but that's about it.
Tricky one for Josh, Qureshi's currently outside the top 400 but he's been top 200 in singles and top 100 in doubles in the past. He competed in the two 15Ks in Devon in February, reaching the semis of Exmouth and the quarters of Barnstaple. Won close matches against Kasiri and Smith.
Should be another straights win for Jamie, his Polish opponent is 18 and has had his best results on clay, making the latter stages of several 10Ks on the dirt in 2006.
I was amazed at Tobias Clemens entering this tournament but I've just seen that before his rd1 win, he hadn't won since the start of November ! He had some superb results indoors last autumn, reaching the Helsinki challenger final and qualifying and reaching the quarters of ATP Metz. Alan Mackin beat him 7-5, 6-1 but I doubt Brewer can beat a top 250 guy. Hope I'm wrong tho !

Well yeah, but Josh is my local lad, coming from Basingstoke which is just down the road from Newbury and has a great shopping centre so it's hard to choose
