IW coverage on Radio Tennis & Ken's website

I got an email from our old mate Ken at Radio Tennis which says that they are covering IW as follows:

  • Mar. 10: Pacific Life Open: Indian Wells, CA.
  • Mar. 11: Pacific Life Open: Indian Wells, CA.
  • Mar. 17: Pacific Life Open: Indian Wells, CA.
  • Mar. 18: Pacific Life Open: Indian Wells, CA

  • Might be useful to those of us without Sky ...

Even more interesting, the man whom we affectionately know as "the worst commentator in the World" (remember when Andy played the Croatian Sensation ...) now has his own website! www.KenThomas.name

He calls himself "The Voice of Tennis - La Voz de Tenis"

    Great quotes:

"I've played tennis tournaments where if I didn't win the tournament, I couldn't pay my rent...now that's real pressure... who better to call a tennis match than me!"

    On Playing John McEnroe:
"I lost to John McEnroe in a national junior tournament in 1975. I think defeating me gave him the confidence to become one of the greatest tennis players of all time. I know this for a fact, because after the match he told me that if he would have lost to me, he would have quit tennis."
    That one's just class!

    On His Style of Play:
"If you look at the national titles I have won, it's obvious that I am a senior grass court doubles specialist. There's not many of us around. It's a very specialized niche within tennis that not many people follow or care about...nor should they."

On the Amazing Popularity of RadioTennis.com in France:
"Yes it is true; RadioTennis.com is extremely popular in France. Many Parisians considered me the Jerry Lewis of tennis web casting."
    * speechless *

Regarding the Choice of Music During Breaks on RadioTennis.com:
"We like to rock pretty hard on RadioTennis.com, but so does our audience. We get emails from ladies in Micronesia asking for more Ozzy Osborne...I'm not kidding."

On His Unique Broadcasting Style: (you can say that again )
    "I try to paint a visual picture of the match and its surroundings for the listener. I want the listener to feel as if they're sitting next to me having a beer and sharing a good time. I want the listener to feel comfortable yet engaged. The Internet provides us with the freedom to try new things. There's no pressure on RadioTennis.com to fit into an existing broadcast 'format'. It's okay to relax and have some fun. I would like to invite everyone who enjoys tennis to log-on to RadioTennis.com and share some of the best tennis in the world with us...cheers!";

There's a rather worrying-looking link called "Ken for Hire", which I was brave enough to have a look at. If Britishtennis.net ever has an annual dinner, I suggest you get him in as the speaker.

    Ken for Hire

Ken is available for the following tennis-related functions:
    • On-camera tennis commentary

    • Audio play-by-play

    • Emcee/
      Speaking Engagements

    • News updates/
      Sound bites

    • Corporate outings

    • Clinics/Exhibitions

Anyway, it's all good stuff, and great to see an American who can take the p*ss out of himself. Or at least, I think that's what he's doing in some of those quotes.

    Haha great stuff !

I love that McEnroe quote ! Thanks for the link steven, it should hopefully come in useful.

Anyone have any news on streams for Indian Wells ? Is the ATP highlights package available for just one tournament and how good is it ?

It is available for just one tournament and it's not bad at all. It's just so annoying that virtually everywhere except the UK you can get live coverage on there!

In most countries, ATP Masters Series TV gives you live video from the AMS events on the web, but in the UK, the ATP's contract with Sky prevents them from doing that.

What is more, they have the bare-faced cheek to charge UK members the same as those who can get live coverage!

I would happily pay the year's subscription if I got live coverage for it.

Yeah, that's what stopped me getting it, even if they'd reduce the price for just the highlights it would be better but charging the same price for half the service is outrageous.
