Because high quality Junior action is loads better than 10K standard. Top 10 players are usually capable of taking 25Ks with ease.
The latter stages of grand slams and maybe GAs are probably better than 10Ks but otherwise 10Ks are a lot stronger than the junior tour. For one thing, competition is a lot more intense as players are scrapping to break even.
Also, the junior tour matters not a jot at the end of the day when it comes to a player's career, the womens tour is the bread and butter for every player. Annabel and our top teenagers are better off basing their game styles for success on the main tour and concentrating mainly on that. Obviously when you're 14, 15 and 16 you play a lot of juniors because the no of senior matches you can play is limited but from 17 onwards they should be playing mainly on the pro tour and just using the juniors for match practise in between futures and challenger events.
Unfortunately Annabel Bann came back down to earth with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Banamar Banamar beat Emily Webley-Smith by the same scoreline in the previous round...
We do have a Brit in the semis though, Jane O'Donoghue won 6-3, 7-5. Excellent win given that Schoeffel knocked out the 7th seed in rd1 and beat Olivia Scarfi 6-0, 6-2 a couple of weeks ago.
Hopefully Jane can end the Brit-bashing Banamar's run tomorrow
Brilliant result for Jane Very impressive scoreline given how easily Benamar had beaten Webley-Smith and Bann in previous rounds.
It's Jane's first 10K final since last August, she's now guaranteed to move up 20 places to 372. If she beats Widmer she'll move up to 362.
Widmer hasn't dropped more than 6 games in total in any of her matches this week. She's currently ranked 255, her best results this year have come in Britain. She made the quarters of the Sutton 25K (beating Naomi Cavaday and Georgie Stoop along the way) and also made the quarters of the Sunderland 10K in Jan before losing to Karen Paterson. Jane has played her once before, winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the Mount Gambier 25K down under in November.

Hmmm... I disagree with that. While I think that 10Ks are more competitve because players are fighting to earn a living out of it, the quality of tennis seen at even the first round of Slams is far better than most 10Ks.
Look at someone like Yasmin Clarke, who has reached the finals of a 10K. Clarke will probably get thrashed badly by most of the top 50 players.
David, look at Cavaday, whose case is a great example of how good you need to be to make some progress at the Junior Slams. If Naomi plays one of these 10Ks, she's going to bully the field into submission and win it without dropping a set. But at this moment she can do absolutely nothing against top 20 players.
Even Paszek couldn't reach the quarters of the AO Juniors. Paszek already has a Tour title and can even trouble Sharapova, Mauresmo etc. on her day. The result of a match between Vedy and Sharapova would be...
I think that many of the matches in the round of 16 onwards at Slams are easily 50K standard and semis onwards they are better than many Tour matches.
Brilliant result for Jane She moves up to 362, top 300 by Wimbledon looks very possible, maybe even close to top 275 if she continues this form.
Info from the tournament organiser on the final:
There were lots of breaks in the 1st set, both players making too many errors. Widmer was marginally more consistent and that enabled her to nick the first set 6-4. From then on, Jane started to control the rallies, making fewer errors and troubling Widmer with her precise hitting and that enabled Jane to come out the winner.
She said 'I'm really very pleased to win. I've not had a good start to the year, being injured, and I've approached this week as though it's my first tournament of the year so it's not a bad start!
'It's been a difficult 18 months with my wrist injury but I've come back and it's nice to get that first win under my belt - I need to re-coup now because Gaelle just ran me all over the show!'
'I'm a long way off Wimbledon at the moment,' she added 'but I'll continue to work hard and I just need to get a few more wins in now.
'It's been a brilliant tournament, Jersey is a fantastic place to come to and I'm really looking forward to coming back over in October.'
