Stephanie Alfery is ranked over 400 places lower at 1062. On paper, the 19 year old German shouldn't pose too many problems, she's only won one match so far this year and lost in straight sets to Britain's Emily Webley-Smith in Portugal last week. However, these matches can be trickier than they seem as the Buchen tournament is on fast indoor carpet which can be difficult to get used to in a short space of time.
Pretty poor result considering that Alfery is 400 places lower. Anna needs to stop playing these tournaments on fast indoor carpet, she seems to really struggle in them, a few weeks ago she lost in Biberach 25K qualifying to a lower ranked out of form opponent in straights.
I guess it's because she has a clay-courter's game style and she doesn't have long to adapt to the fast surface.
I don't know why she didn't enter the 10K in Spain this week, she would have made the main draw and it would have suited her a lot more. Bizarre scheduling imo.
She was originally considering going for the Minx 25K but I think she's made a good decision in going for Jersey as it's a much better chance of getting some points. She's likely to be seeded there and it's on indoor acrylic which suits her game more.
If she'd going for Minx it would have been on indoor carpet and she would have had to qualify which would have been really tough as the field is so strong
