In Vegas, Verdasco beat Udomchoke, wins the group and advances to the quarters, which puts him out of reach of tim this week

Becker  beats Guga, but not by a big enough margin (I think) to be able to go through: I think if Guga beats Hernych by anything better than 64 63, then Guga'll go through, and if he does 63 64 or worse, then Hernych goes through......which I think warrants a smilie:

The updated table is posted here (On BritishTennis.net)

Simon  went out and Rochus won in Dubai. By beating Simon, Santoro advances onto the table

In Vegas, Becker won, but not well enough. Verdasco won, and is out of reach.

Benneteau is a set down to Querrey - even if he wins (in 3) he won't go through

Later,  in Acapulco, #1 threat, Gaudio plays qualifyer Guzman. A win would see him overtaking Tim .#3 threat, Chela plays Devilder, and can also overtake (on mandatory points).#4 Moya plays Hartfield. Massu plays Galvani. Ram-Ham plays Almagro.

#1 target, Acasuso plays Vanek. Calleri plays Hernandez.

The "What If" post.

Tim is defending 75 points from 2006, so he needs to reach the semi- final just to stand still on 820 points. On the upside, because he's got less than 18 tournaments forming his points, every point he gains this week counts towards his total.  In Monday's rankings he was WR 37. On the live rankings he began the week dropping to 45, but his first RR win brought him up to 41.

Yesterday, Gaudio and Chela overtook him, so Tim's down to 43. He has 20 points from his first RR win, and plays his second tonight.

If Tim wins Vegas: He will have 920 points. He will overtake  Becker, Gicquel, Ginepri and Bjorkman. He could overtake
Rochus (S in D), Acasuso(F in A), Simon(F in D), Gaudio and Chela (W in A) but can no longer overtake Verdasco (reached qf in V), Almagro (reached qf in A) . He could be overtaken by Moya (W in A). That's 6 targets/threats - a max of 4 can overtake.
Best case: 34 (+3)
Worst case: 38(-1)

If Tim loses in the final: He will have 865 points. He will overtake Gicquel, Ginepri and Bjorkman. He could overtake Acasuso(S in A), Simon(S in D), Becker (F in V, but who is probably out in RR), Gaudio and Chela (F in A). He could be overtaken by Moya (F in A), Massu (W in A), Santoro (W in D), but not Benneteau (out in RR in V). That's 8 targets/threats - a max of 5 can overtake.

Best case: 35 (+2)
Worst case: 40(-3)

If Tim loses in the sf: He will have 820 points. He will overtake Gicquel, Ginepri and Bjorkman. He could overtake Becker (Q in V,but who is probably out in RR), Simon(Q in D), Gaudio(S in A), Chela (F in A), but not Acasuso(reached qf in A) .  He could be overtaken by Moya (F in A), Massu (F in A), Santoro and Serra (both W in D), but not Benneteau (out in RR in V) or Ram -Ham (oput in R2 in A). That's 8 targets/threats - a max of 6 can overtake.

Best case: 36(+1)
Worst case: 42(-5)

If Tim loses in the qf: He will have 785 points. He will overtake Ginepri. He could overtake Chela (S in A), but not Gaudio (reached qf in A).  He could be overtaken by Moya (S in A), Massu (F in A), Santoro (W in D), but not Benneteau (out inRR in V), Ram- Ham (out in R2 in A) or Serra (out in R2 in D). That's 4 targets/threats - a max of 3 can overtake.
Best case: 41(-4)
Worst case: 44(-7)

If Tim loses in the RR round: He will still have 765 points. He could overtake no one.  He could be overtaken by Moya (S in A), Massu (F in A) and  Santoro (F in D),  but not Benneteau (out inRR in V), Ram- Ham (out in R2 in A) or Serra (out in R2 in D). That's 3 targets/threats - a max of 3 can overtake.

Best case: 43(-6)
Worst case: 46(-9)
