16 year old Amanda Carreras has been given a wildcard into the main draw of this week's 10K in Sant Boi, Spain. Carreras trains at an academy in Barcelona and gained her first world ranking last week.
Unfortunately Amanda will be the only British player in action in Sant Boi. Kirsty Woolley and Abbie Probert both lost in the first qualifying round. Woolley was ground down 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 by a lower ranked Spanish player and Probert found Italian 3rd seed Giorgia Mortello in a different class, losing 6-1, 6-1
She's 18, has a career best of 433 (last July). Last week she qualified for the Melilla 10K and won a round. Beat 17 year old Brit Jessica Jackson 6-2, 6-3 in Hull earlier this year, an impressive result given how good Jessica is indoors and the pace she can generate of both sides.
