British no 5 Amanda Keen has entered qualifying for WTA Doha (Tier III) this weekend. The tall left-hander has only won 2 matches so far this year and she'll be hoping for a turnaround in form in the Middle East.
Amanda has drawn 20 year old Ukranian Mariya Koryttseva in rd1. Koryttseva is currently ranked 452 but reached a career high of 119 this time last year before being forced out for 7 months with an injury. She's also been as high as 56 in doubles. So far in 2007, she's won a match in a 75K and played in WTA Bangalore, losing in rd1
Katerina Bondarenko is the top seed and is currently ranked over 100 places higher than Amanda at 111. She has been in the top 100.
Bondarenko is also a quality doubles player with a current ranking of 61. She was in sublime form in rd1 in Doha, hammering Ireland's Kelly Liggan 6-1, 6-1. She has played just 3 tournaments so far in 2007, losing in rd1 of Aussie Open qualifying and WTA Pattaya and in qualifying for Dubai last week.
Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive.... those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience
