I presume Boggo will be trying for the Sunrise challenger if he isn't still involved in Indian Wells? Guessing his ranking won't be enough to get direct entry, but will he try and qualify?

i guess he will try and qualify, not sure what else he would do. how far down does the cut normally go?

if he is still involved in IW i think we will all be over the moon :)

Current cut for singles is 73, but that will probably change will a lot of players still playing IW by the Friday.

Guessing he should be able to make the qualifying cut, as a lot of the players on the alternate list won't be wanting to play qualifying

looking further ahead, cardiff has its challenger again.

If i was in alex shoes (and assuming he isnt at atp lvl by then) i would probably take a week off after cardiff, there not mch on then anyway, b4 playing 3 challengers on clay then RGQ. he has avoided clay like the plague recently (last year rgq, year 4 1 ch + rgq:), but i wonder if his new coaches will psuh him on to it?

He probably does need to play a bit more on clay if he is ever going to make the top 100 as it would give him another surface to gain a lot of points on.

I would also take that week off, but would maybe play Lanzarote (hard courts) the following week, and then play 2 weeks on clay before RGq's, as it would probably give him a better chance to gain points

If he does play on clay, then I would go Rome, Telde, San Remo as they are the weakest events, and so likely to have the weaker clay court players, which would enable Boggo to pick up a few more points, as well as getting in a bit more match practise on the clay

I've found the qualifying draws for the first 2 clay court events from last year

Houston Qualifying Draw 2006

(1) MULLER, Gilles LUX/BYE
BRUNSTROM, Johan SWE v. (WC) COLE, Theron USA
BYE/MASSA, Edgardo ARG
BYE/(5)ARMANDO, Hugo USA

(2) KOUBEK, Stefan AUT/BYE
CLAYTON, Alex USA v. KOHLMANN, Michael GER
MARCACCIO, Gustavo ARG v. VERONELLI, Diego ARG
BYE/(8) JENKINS, Scoville USA

(3) KUNITSYN, Igor RUS/BYE
(WC)WASKE, Sebastian GER v. LEVINE, Jesse USA
KNOWLE, Julian AUT v. HEUBERGER, Ivo SUI
BYE/(6)RUSSELL, Michael USA

(4) DUPUIS, Antony FRA/BYE
FUGATE, Marcus USA v. MOSER, Frank GER
WASHINGTON, Mashiska USA v. JEGEDE, Sunday NGR
BYE/(7) VEMIC, Dusan SCG

Valencia Qualifying Draw 2006

(1)Nicolas Almagro (ESP) vs Tomislav Peric (CRO)
Dominik Meffert (GER) vs Amel Bisevac (AUT)
Ivo Klec (SVK) vs James Ward (GBR)
Michal Mertinak (SVK) vs (6)Ivan Navarro Pastor (ESP)

(2)Albert Portas (ESP) vs Marc Lopez (ESP)
Alexander Peya (AUT) vs Galo Blanco (ESP)
Jose Antonio Sanchez De Luna (ESP) vs Bartolome Salva Vidal (ESP)
Pablo Andujar (ESP) vs (7)Daniel Gimeno Traver (ESP)

(3)Thierry Ascione (FRA) vs Dieter Kindlmann (GER)
David Marrero (ESP) vs Santiago Ventura (ESP)
Hector Ruiz Cadenas (ESP) vs Artur Romanowski (POL)
Marcel Granollers Puyol (ESP) vs (5)Teimuraz Gabashvili (GEO)

(4)Peter Luczak (AUS) vs Tobias Summerer (GER)
Daniel Elsner (GER) vs Juan miguel Such Perez (ESP)
Stephane Robert (FRA) vs Gorka Fraile (ESP)
Yuri Schukin (RUS) vs (8)Alex Calatrava (ESP)

If Boggo was going to try ATP qualies in a clay event, I would stay away from the Spanish events, as even though it doesnt look too strong, there are enough clay court journymen who could have something to trouble Boggo. Houston on the other hand....

They are going to use Har-Tru in Houston this year, which is a tiny bit faster than red dirt. Boggo should go for it!

The descriptions I have seen on drawsheets include:

Red clay (e.g. RG, also known as 'terre battue'), green clay (also called Har-Tru and used a lot in the US), crushed dung ('merde battue' to the French? )

Hard, Cement, Rebound Ace (e.g. AO), DecoTurf (e.g. USO)

Grass, Synthetic grass (e.g. Dublin Challenger, also known as Outdoor Carpet!)

Indoor Hard, Carpet, Indoor Clay (usually Har-Tru, i.e. green clay), Indoor Greenset (e.g. Cherbourg Challenger)
