So, if the rules can be bent for Blake, why weren't they bent for Ferrero last week?
The whole thing is a complete fiasco - as about 99% of people on message boards everywhere have said from the start. I really don't know where Mr Disney gets the "the fans want RR" idea from.
dumb situation, really, i think tho a retirement should count as a loss and assume no further games won by the retiree (is that a word) so in bales case it becmoes 61,61
with this system there is always the risk of matches being a bit dodgy in the outcome.

Nope - The rules state if a retirement occurs that match does not count therfore it goes to h2h between Blake and Korolev (which of course Blake loses)
However ATP decided either ' Blake would have won by the required scoreline' or ' players did not understand the rules'
Paid Korolev off with a bit more prize money...however Safin and Hewitt are really annoyed with the decision
I'm not surprised Safin and Hewitt are annoyed by the decision. Can't believe they bent the rules, that's disgraceful, it's as bad as someone losing int eh knockout stage but going through anyway just won't be seen as such becuase no one understands the RR rules.

There's a petition been put together to state the REAL fans' views on RR ready for a meeting they're having in 3 weeks in Miami to review the format. It will be sent to the relevant people prior to that meeting.
Please sign it, and please pass it on to anyone else on other boards, etc, who might be interested in signing it.
Yes...and now they have a job on their hands cleaning up the mess this fiasco has left...it's made the ATP look almost criminally stupid for nearly 24 hours.
Rules state, if two players are tied, it comes down to head to head. Korolev beat Blake so he goes through. Percentage of games won is irrelevant. This only counts if 3 players are tied. They weren't, because Del Potro only completed 1 game and is therefore automatically below the other 2. I read the rules once and understood this. How come the guys organising the tournament didnt? How ridiculous to just ignore the rules in order to put the more popular player through!
