So the repeat of last years semi when Andy won in 2...a different A Rod this time...but I really think Andy can step it up...so what if the event has rigged the courts in Rods favour...all the sweeter when the lad from Dunblane wins in 3 !!!
I'm going to say it'll get to a final set and edge it to Murray in 3...but not confidently. I don't think either of them played nearly as well as they can today, both of them will be feeling they'll need to play much better, so the question is who can find a higher level in the big match.
Trouble is, I think it will be something of a spite match on Roddick's side; he really does not like that 2-1 H2H Andy M has over him. . . and Jimmy Connors is just the guy to motivate him on that! Then there is the Gilbert thing as well.
If Andy M plays at his best, I would back him to take it in 3. But on his showing here so far, I have had to vote for Roddick in 3.
Here's hoping "Mrs Pessimism" is wrong again!
Match will be at 7pm local, that is 3am here. I'm afraid I will have to miss it, I can't be awake at that time of the night and still function the next day. If anybody could record the match I would be eternally grateful
Oh flip, I'm going for Roddick aswell. Murray's serve hasn't been good enough, and Roddick's booming serve on these courts may be tricky even for Murray... even worse than Madeline's prediction, I'm going for Roddick in 2. Oh the shame of it. I really hope I'm completely wrong.
Roddick for me - I just think the court conditions play right into his strengths. If Andy can serve well then he has a chance but he really has to up his game and not get lured into playing Roddick's game like he did in Cincy. When (I doubt it will be if) Roddick starts taking body-shots Andy needs to let it go and take his revenge in another way - preferably by tormenting Roddick by taking pace off the ball and using angles and dropshots and everything.
I can see why so many folk are tipping A-Rod to win this...fair enough....but Gilbert could be the real key....he knows Andy's variety of available shots....so i would be shocked if the tatics were to mix it up from the start, sliced backhands, top spin FH, drop shots, lobs, serve & volley, stay back...and serve like a demon....not much to ask for...or is it...Andy's not ranked 60 odds anymore....he is top 20 up and coming and has beated Roddick right here...and leads 2-1 H2H...So as i said earlier...Murray to win in 3 !
The thing is - they do apparently like each other. Cincy match aside where there was REAL bad feeling there because of the Gilbert/Connors subplots, they seem to get on very well. I mean at Kooyong they were even having fun on court with Roddick pretending he was going to hit Andy with the ball and Andy dropping to the court to 'hide' from it.
I just hope it's not as heated as the Cincy match was because that match really put me off Roddick. Plus, watching Andy's matches are stressful enough so anything that makes it easier has to be good.
I really like Roddick and I believe the Cincy match was out of character for him, he always seems to be a nice guy both on and off court.
I'm planning to get up and watch this match (the live streaming although expensive is great quality and worth it to watch my two fav players!) So i hope the tennis is good, I'll provide commentary if I can depends how awake I am!
Currently watching Becker/Karlovic the BFG is currently leading 76 44. Hope the big guy wins, although the crowd seem to prefer Becker, just feeling sorry for him I think, he's not getting a look in on Karlovic's serve! A Murry Karlovic final would be really interesting.
