This means Jamie has 167 points. Overtakes both Alan Mackin and Jonny Marry to become British number 7. He is on the same number of points as 3 other people, however because he got a wildcard into our very own Grand Slam, he has more mandatory points and so leaps over them to become world number 234. A rise of 81 places since the start of the year.
(that ranking may not be 100% accurate depending on futures results from last week and anyone I've missed as it's right near the bottom of my table. However it won't be out by more than a couple of places.)

SF: Jamie Baker WR 268 v (1) Michael Russell (USA) WR 96
Jamie will play his SF on Friday, time TBA. He faces his toughest test so far, against a top 100 player who beat him 1 & 5 in the Waikoloa Challenger Final last month.
Russell has beaten three lower-ranked players in a row in straight sets and has already won the Nouméa Challenger as well as the one in Waikoloa this year ... but then again Jamie has beaten three higher-ranked players in a row in straight sets this week.

Whatever the result of the semi final, Jamie can be very pleased with his weeks work. If he can maintain this kind of level, won't be long before he breaks into the top 200! Plus he will get direct entry to most challengers.
According to OOP on ATP site, play starts at 1130 local time, which is 6 hours behind GMT, so 1730 our time. Jamie is second match up, so probably about 1900 GMT.

Wonderful play by Jamie Baker! What a season he's having...
It'll be interesting to see him get another crack at Russell. Both players in great form.
Funny business in doubles though. Jamie pulled out of his doubles with "tooth pain" and Russell pulled out of his with a gastrocnemius strain. Anyone know what that is, and if its real is it likely to hinder Russell?
If he continues to be consistent at the major challengers, the top 150 is not out of reach for him to achieve! Only problem is that hes playing so well in the States, but he might struggle to do well in Europe. I hope im proved wrong!! Nevertheless, well done Baker!!

It means he pulled a calf muscle. Probably just a precautionary doubles drop-out though, I'm guessing - it doesn't look like it hindered him in his singles match.

I'm sure it's fairly common for players to drop out of doubles simply because they're doing unexpectedly well in singles, but is this not an acceptable reason for withdrawal? Do players have to submit a made-up affliction? Dog ate my homework, Miss!
I did think, when the ATP made the move to get more top singles players involved in doubles, that this kind of thing would be likely to happen.
Bit hard on the spectators - although I prefer singles, if I paid for a ticket that included a doubles match, I would expect to see that match.(Well, I am half Yorkshire!)

Not 100% on this but I think they do have to use a valid reason for withdrawal to protect the doubles from all singles players looking for a few extra dollars if they unexpectedly lose first round. Which is fair enough in my opinion.
Not sure why Russell decided he should withdraw though as you can't really call his getting to the semis 'unexpected' he is the top seed afterall.

I don't expect Jamie to win today, as Russell seems to be one of the in form players at the moment, but it's still been another good week for him, and he finally seems to be showing the promise that we knew he had
Good luck to him today, and hopefully he can pull off the upset victory and reach another challenger final
