Natasha Khan is seeded 3 in qualies.

Needs to win 2 matches to qualify!

QR1 vs Julia Trunk (GER) (UNR)

possible QR2's - GRELA, Aleksandra (POL) (950)

ETZEL, Franziska [11] (Ger) (651)

She really ought to qualify here!

Easy rd1 match for Natasha, Trunk is 18 and unranked and has only played 2 previous matches on the pro tour, losing both.

Hopefully Natasha can continue the great form she showed in the British 25Ks here.
Etzel could be tricky in qr2 but on Natasha's current form, she really should beat her. I guess it depends how tough the courts are to get used to.

Best of luck to Natasha on this one. She really doesn't have many good tournament finishes to defend - she just has the odd couple here and there - so I'm very confident that she'll move up the rankings this year. If she can grind out the odd $25k qf or a $10k semi or final at any point throughout the year she'll make big headway into the top 500.

Having seen her in Sutton, I'd be very surprised if she's not top 300 by the end of the year, she's got such a great all-court game: really big serve, can hit winners off both sides and she's starting to follow her heavy shots into the net a lot more, killing off points. The only weaknesses are her backhand which can be a big weapon but she sometimes loses confidence in it (as against Salerni in Tipton) and her net game is obviously still a work in progress but it will only get better over the next 12 months.

She's surely be making the latter stages of 10Ks regularly soon. She's got some points to defend from a couple of 10K semis (which she reached in India last year) in March and April but apart from that, there's nothing meaningful to defend until July and August so these next few months are a great opportunity to really move up the rankings.

Natasha eased through 6-3 6-2. She plays Etzel for a MD place. Etzel double bagelled her qr1 opponent (wr 950). An interesting match to come.....

double bagelling someone in the top 1000 shows a modicum of form.
Watch out Natasha...

Main Draw

toughish draw for Georgie, but winnable and better than drawing Voracova or Meusberger...

Georgie Stoop (291) vs Magda Mihalache (ROM) (255) (7th seed)

Etzel bt Khan 7-5 6-4

but is LL in R1....

Stoop vs (7) Mihalache (Rom, 255)
LL Khan vs (3) Gojnea (Rom, 215)

Could have been kinder to both. Stoop has a chance given she is underranked.

If she lost to Etzel she'll most likely lose to Gojnea

Then again, lucky losers have this odd tendency to make the quarters/r16.... ;)

And in a strange twist the doubles draw is the same except they'll all be on the same court!

(2)Gojnea/Mihalache (ROM) v Khan/Stoop (GBR)

Well people. You were right.

Khan turned her LL tag into a pot of gold points beating Gojnea 4-6 6-2 6-3

Sadly Georgie lost 6-4 0-6 7-6(3) Clearly had the game to beat her, as we can see from the second set!
