Not sure whether to start a new thread re Andy coaching Nojo, but want to say that I feel torn and am taking more interest in Nojo. I wanted him to get knocked out when he went down a set but also didn't want it for Andy - and don't want Andy to get sacked.

Anyone else relate?

 Yes

The sooner this partnership ends the better.

I've got mixed feelings about this too as I enjoy seeing him in the limelight albeit in the enemy's camp.

Agreed. My preferred scenario would be Andy ending the partnership, saying it's not a good fit and he doesn't feel he can add enough to Nojo's game.

(I don't want him sacked because I don't want him "tainted" by this and I want everyone else lining up to hire him! And then for him to get hired by a series of GB players (men and women) to take them to the next level.)

I love the idea of him helping our next gen

Being frank, I mainly want it to be a success and see Andy make a difference to Novak's game - dont care if it is Novak or anyone else, just like to see Andy be a success.

One match is early days (dont count Brisbane as Andy wasnt there), so hard to tell from that.

I suspect this is Novaks last season, he isnt getting any younger or better, and dont expect Andys involvement will run beyond the 4 slams, maybe IW and Miami, and maybe US hardcourts and then grass prep more widely.

Given their involvement, be interesting to see if Novak plays a grass warmup for a change, maybe Queens? I am sure Andy will try to persuade him to if Novak views this as a last season.

Andy and Novak need to decide on their future collaboration, obviously.

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-14320781/Andy-Murray-Novak-Djokovic-Serbian-RETIREMENT-Australian-Open.html

Sounds like Djoko would like further input from Andy - suspect Andy would never be up for a full time travelling role, maybe they will align on something like the AO, around the slams and preparation for those and during them, over the rest of the season?

I think Djoko's best chance by far of one more slam is the Wimbledon title - can't see him winning a two week FO over 5 set matches (Olympics was a different beast) and US Open feels like it may be a physical stretch for him now. Grass is kinder and he is relatively more experienced and better on it that the others.

Personally, dont think he will go on beyond this season, but clearly everything is going to be evolving over the next period

Yes, Wimbledon probably is Djokovic's best opportunity.

Remarkably for to my mind, relatively speaking, not an absolute historical great grass court player he has already won 7 Wimbledon titles.

It rather grates with me ( ever get the impression that quite a few things about Djokovic grate with me? ) that Andy has seen him off in the only 2 matches, winning all 5 sets, that they have ever played on grass ( the 2012 Olympics SF and 2013 Wimbledon final ) and Djokovic has 7 Wimbledon titles to Andy's 2.

He has rather lucked out in Fed being that bit older and Andy getting injured, with 6 of his Wimbledon titles coming from 2014 on. He has generally been good enough for the grass court opposition out there.

Radio Five, annabel and Russel F, talking about how impressed Djoko has been by Andys diligence and tactical assessments of opponents. Saying their relationship continuing is really about whether Andy wants to and with the travel etc

So we stayed at the Cromlix. I have to say, it is a fabulous hotel; the place is set in beautiful grounds amid wonderful countryside. The welcome was lovely, a roaring fire in the reception area and a lovely glass of bubbly as a welcome drink.

We had booked the entry level room. It was all we could afford! But we had an amazing surprise as on check in, we were upgraded several room levels to a deluxe suite - haha. I mean this was big . Like an apartment , really amazing, but very chilled and relaxed. No idea why they upgraded us other than a RAOK. There are only 15 rooms in total, 10 bedrooms and 5 suites and it maybe was half full at most so they obviously decided the room was available, why not.

Well we were very happy - the suite would have been 5 times what we paid per night or more, so that was a big result!

I have a video Ill see if I can attach to give an idea!

The food was very, very nice - breakfast was good Scottish fare like porridge or full Scottish; the restaurant hard to fault and above all the staff were excellent.

We dont stay in many hotels of this level so hard to compare, being honest, but I have to say they have got this one spot on. But Im sure the upgrade from bottom level to top of the pile probably swayed us!

You probably have to upload them to YouTube and then post a link here.

Glad to hear you had such a great time, Jon.

Clearly you got the upgrade because they know about all your hard work running the ciompetitions on the Andy Murray Message Board! biggrin

Private Eye echoes many of the thoughts expressed about the partnership.  Not sure how much can be quoted - it includes:

"Headlines such as "No, No Novak!", "It's No-vax Djokovic!" and "Serbian Spoilsport is Sick Joke-ovic!" may have led readers to believe that we may in some way have disapproved of his antics both on and off court. However, in light of his wise appointment of the peerless and ever-popular Sir Andy Murray as his coach ... we now acknowledge that Novak is one of our own."

from "Novak Djokovic - AN APOLOGY" in Private Eye Issue 1641, 24 Jan- 6 Feb 2025, page 33 - the issue with front-cover "Donald Trump an apology".
