Andy Murray tells @BBCSpor that after this week, doubles is done for the time being.
He will play singles in Winston-Salem next week, and then skip doubles at the US Open.

He may train during the US Open, or - depending on how next week in Winston-Salem goes - play on the Challenger Tour. Theres an event with a strong field in New Haven during week two of the US Open.

Full story here.  He's apprently taken the last wild card for Winston-Salem next week.

Yes, my post says he has the WC....

Winston Salem have given WC's also to Berdych (on verge of retiring due to injury) and Anderson (injured for much of this year) and Andy (trying to come back from injury/surgery)

He's apparently having second thoughts about his decision to forgo the chance of a WC into the main draw at the USO & thinks that perhaps going through qualies might have been a better bet because they're best of three matches & they're what he needs, but it's now too late.

Ha, Andy's thinking often changes day to day and, tending at times to be emotional and/or say what he feels at any given time, we often get kept in the loop. Interesting ...

I guess this is an "if any Q WC should happen to drop out ..."

Ha, and now I'm playing men's and mixed doubles at the US Open. Naa, forget that it's singles now

Pretty intense schedule now

Andy Murray is taking a wild card in Shanghai, starting October 3rd.

A big step up in his comeback, and will mean back-to-back tournaments in Zhuhai (ATP 250), Beijing (ATP 500), and Shanghai (ATP 1000). Then Antwerp week after.

Had no idea Andy was expecting baby number three pretty soon

Lovely news.

And hence he's not booked any tournaments for after Antwerp.

More details in this interview with Stu Fraser in today's Times (behind a paywall).  Antwerp chosen in preference to Stockholm because of the imminent arrival of the baby ( smile ) & the fact that it's only a short flight away.

So pleased for Andy winning in Antwerp. Way beyond expectations this early in his recovery.

What can people see him go on to achieve now? Certainly another ATP 250 could be achieved, but what about 500's, Masters and Grand Slams? Another Olympic medal?
At this stage I wouldn't put anything beyond him. What a fighter.

I think next season his focus will be around the Slams and Olympics and preserving his body to be competitive at those. I see some sort of calendar like this:

1. ATP Cup - Australia

2. Aus Open

3. Indoor event - Marseille?

4. Indian Wells

5. Miami

break

6. Madrid

7. Rome

8. French Open - Paris

9. Queens

10. Wimbledon

11. Washington?

12. Olympics - Tokyo

13. One more US event?

14. US Open

15.  Beijing

16. Shanghai

17. Antwerp again

18. Paris

19. O2 - you never know and it will be the last one I think?

I suspect he will by pass Davis Cup next year but you never know it depends on his body.

As for how will he do - dont see slam wins but do see QF level, maybe a semi at wimbledon? Masters series - ditto SF level

Can see an ATP500 win and Queens and maybe Washington or Beijing would fit that bill

With Andy who knows, I think I will just sit back and try and enjoy the ride. I'm not ruling anything out. If he doesn't scale any great heights again no worries and just thanks for that bit more. And if he does, will just be the start.

Think I was one of the more optimistic folk about him at least returning to singles and being competitive at a decent level. If it looked possible, to my mind he was always going to go for it.

But he has most certainly exceeded my 2019 expectations, greatly helped by the huge improvement in his general endurance fitness from when we first saw him back.

There's quite a nice interview with him (behind a paywall), conducted by Stu Fraser, in Tuesday's Times in which he dscusses his rehab & admits frankly that he knows he's "a pain to work with".  smile   Never one to shirk the truth, our Andy!  wink
