Insiders over at MTF seem to think the injury is quite serious, and he could be out for up to 6 weeks?

Yes, I read somewhere that Roland Garros would be touch and go but you never know quite how much credibility to give a lot of these reports.

Good. Sounds much better than was reported "Insiders over at MTF" were suggesting.

Yeah, and nice picture of Andy with Stefanos Tsit. (precocious Greek youngster), in France, but down at Mouratoglou, having trained for two and a half hours yesterday morning:

Looking happy, the pair of them, with Andy looking 'small and skinny' next to the 18 year-old !

Tim Henman making a good point about Andy's relatively poor form recently, saying that he thinks Andy's attack of shingles in February is still affecting him.

I can relate to that.  I had shingles five years ago & had it not been for the fact that Spring Bank Holiday Monday that year was on 4th June & followed by the extra holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, I'd have had to take a full fortnight off work.  The anti-viral tablets I was prescribed in the nick of time were effective almost immediately, but for weeks after I went back to work, I was plagued by neuralgia at the site of the rash & felt constantly drained of energy.  It is not at all pleasant!  cry

Thanks SC. From all I read shingles can certainly have an ongoing very variable effect.

It is not to automatically excuse Andy's form for with him it is a possible ongoing unknown effect, possibly even to himself, certainly unknown to us. But it is to say that there is this unknown component possibly still effecting him. One reason, on top of been there, done it and come back before, why I feel it very unwise to start writing him off for the future.

If one reads the articles today on various websites and online papers, Andy seems in a bad place - lots of swearing and bad vibes in a poor practice session with Pablo Cuevas. Jamie D taking a lot of the brunt. Reading between the lines, Andy is physically shot from his efforts last year, as evidenced by his various ailments, shingles, elbow, virus etc and mentally unmotivated as seems to be his want from previous occasions he has achieved or failed in major goals. But here is the good new - he has been here before and he has got out of it before and achieved. It just seems to be his character and he seems to turn it around and achieve good things in due course. When , who knows, but I reckon we will see a second half Andy coming back again.

Here is one of the articles I read:

Wouldn't be surprised to see him take a sabbatical to fully recover and start afresh later on in the year or next year. Possibly after Wimbledon, if his form doesn't pick up.

Yes he will definitely want to play the grass season but if there is no turnaround in form and fitness there he might be best advised to do a Federer and recharge his batteries properly for once.

A long and detailed article in Elle, highlighting Andy's belief in equality and all that is good:

From the Beeb's rolling sports news page at 11.04:

Andy Murray has announced he is likely to miss the rest of the season

Following a season plagued by injuries, former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has announced his plans for the rest of the season in a Facebook post.

"Although this has been a frustrating year on court for many reasons, Im confident after this extended period of rest and rehabilitation that I will be able to reach my best level again and be competing for Grand Slam titles next season."

And at 11.07 it posts the full statement from his Twitter page.

Hugely disappointing, but not entirely unexpected & a sensible move, I feel.
