Morgan has been very kind to us and has answered the few questions that I asked him. A big thanks to him.
Here's the small interview:
==========
Date: January 30, 2007.
Question: Why did you start training in Spain? Most British players are based in Britain, so this interests us a lot.
Morgan: Well, I came to Spain because basically I felt there was very little option for me to become a high level tennis player in England. Yes, there were some places where I could have gone but I really didn't get the impression that they wanted to work hard with me. So the country that most produces tennis players is Spain. So I thought it was common sense to go there if i really want to achieve my goals. It became very clear when I got here that my team here had a lot of belief in me and wanted to help me as much as they could, where as in England I had not been offered that!!
Question: You are winning matches very regularly now. Do you have an aim for 2007? As in, is there a ranking that you want to reach?
Morgan: In terms of goals for 2007, I want to improve my tennis level as high as possible, and get in great shape. If I can do that, results will come and my ranking will go up for sure. I'm looking around 300 this year.
Question: You were playing Challenger qualies for a period last year and did greatly to qualify for one of them, in Rimini. Will you attempt those this year, too?
Morgan:I will be playing much more challengers this year because that's were I will gain the high level and even some ATP qualys. But that will all come from May onwards.
Question: You had to retire from match the week before. Are you all right now?
Morgan: I retired the other week because I had a slight groin strain and it kept twinging and I didnt want to snap it and lose two months of tournaments. As you would have seen I had some very long matches in that tournament and got very stiff legs, so my coach dragged me off the court as otherwise I could have hurt myself. But I'm okay now, thanks.
You are welcome, people. Bethan, I am sorry for putting this silly title. I should have made it something normal like "An Interview With Morgan Phillips".

I think that he can get to the top 300. He is beating seeded players week in and week out, so his true level is something much higher than where he is ranked at the moment. It'll be very interesting to see the Challengers (and the Tour qualies!!) in the second half of the year.
