Isn't that a pretty small qualies field then? You reckon this is due to the Friday signup?

It could be, or it could be sue to the fact that East Devon isn't the easiest and best place to get to in February, and there are more attractive tournaments to go to instead

Still, it means it should be easier to see more Brits in the main draw, and at least 2 will qualify, so that can only be a good thing

There are 20 Brits in qualifying here in a very thin field of just 34 players - clearly quite a few of those in Barnstaple found February in deepest Devon a bit too cold! ;)

QR1: Sean Thornley WR 1535 v Victor Schmid (GER) WR 1535
QR1: Burnham Arlidge UNR v Antoine Benneteau (FRA) WR 1243

QR2: (q1) Neil Bamford WR 704 v Thornley or Schmid
QR2: (q11) Richard Irwin WR 971 v Edward Allinson WR 1535

QR2: Arlidge or Benneteau v (q2) Rasmus Norby (DEN) WR 713
QR2: (q14) Jim May WR 7058 v Joseph Dewhurst UNR

* QR2: Edward Corrie WR 1417 v (q3) Miles Armstrong (AUS) WR 721

* QR2: (q4) Andrew Kennaugh WR 750 v Konstantinos Kalaitzis WR 1243
* QR2: (q13) Ross Connolly WR 1054 v Ben Pritchard UNR

QR2: (q5) Alex Slabinsky WR 782 v Marc Meigel (GER) WR 1208

* QR2: Jamie Whiteford UNR v (q6) Juho Paukku (FIN) WR 789
* QR2: Chris Priddle UNR v (q15) Joseph Huber (AUT) WR 1131

QR2: James Langford UNRv (q12) Purav Raja (IND) WR 1023

QR2: Matthew Illingworth WR 1535 v (q8) Jacob Melskens (DEN) WR 900
QR2: (q9) Alex Miotto WR 919 v (WC) Takanyi Garanganga (ZIM) UNR

On Saturday, QR1 (just two matches!) is being played at 11.00 GMT, with the QR2 matches I have starred starting after 12.00 GMT - it is not clear why they are not playing the whole of QR2 on Saturday.

Good day for most of the Brits it seemed, with Pridle and Corrie getting some surprising wins

Probably won't be able to go tomorrow, as I am working most of ther day, but I'm likely to be going over at some point on Monday

QR2: (q9) Alex Miotto WR 919 beat (WC) Takanyi Garanganga (ZIM) UNR by 4 & 4

Another brilliant win against a much higher-ranked opponent, this time for Illingworth ... but oh dear, what has happened to Slabba, that's a dreadful result.

Still, we have GB representatives in 7 of the 8 QR3 matches and we are certain to get at least 3 through to the main draw.

QR3: (q1) Neil Bamford WR 704 v (q11) Richard Irwin WR 971
QR3: (q14) Jim May WR 1058 v (q2) Rasmus Norby (DEN) WR 713
QR3: Edward Corrie WR 1417 v (q16) Alexandre Lacroix (FRA) WR 1173
QR3: (q4) Andrew Kennaugh WR 750 v (q13) Ross Connolly WR 1054

QR3: (q10) David Brewer WR 924 v Marc Meigel (GER) WR 1208
QR3: (q9) Alex Miotto WR 919 v Matthew Illingworth WR 1535

QR3 will be played on Monday.

Ouch, it's been a fair time now since Slabba has put any impressive results together. Not sure he'll ever be ranked much higher than he was last year, starting to lose faith in him.

15:05:
        Bamford won 4 and 2
        May lost 3 and 3
        Main draw about to be made

- so that's 4 Brits through the qualies!!  Bamford and May both playing the same tournament - I'm guessing we're looking at good doubles chances.....

The match had already finished when I got there, and the person I spoke to didn't know what the score was in that match.

Whoever won the match won reasonably easily, as Kennaugh vs. Connolly were already playing when I got there at 12
