RE: France F3 - Bressuire (5 Feb)

Stunning performance from Kasiri    Maybe he's benefitting from having Mike's full attention now.

83% first serves is just   especially as Kasiri has a pretty big serve. Sitak never came anywhere near breaking him.

Kasiri also returned pretty well too, Sitak could only win just over 50% of the points on his 1st and 2nd serve.

Ludwig Pellerin is currently ranked 469 but he's been involved in several close matches with much higher ranked opponents recently. A couple of weeks ago, he reached the quarters of France F1. Kasiri will need to up his game again but if he continues to serve like this, he'll be hard to beat !

served at 66% today and faced 13 aces to his 1!

Great performance! Particularly in that third set!

Go Miles...

Next up is Adrian Mannarino who whooped 4th seed Gary Lugassy 6-2 6-3

Finally a Brit wins a 3 setter! Excellent result particularly after losing a close second. Hope he can race through the tournament a la Baker!

That's a superb win for Kasiri !  He's really hit form at this tournament, going through the gears from one round to another. It's the first time he's gained a ranking point for nearly a year !

He resisted an early Pellerin onslaught at the start of the match, saving 4 bps early on and then nicked the set in the 10th game taking his first bp opportunity. 2nd set was very close, Pellerin served a bit better - 74% 1st serves which probably allowed him to nick the breaker. In the final set, Pellerin's 1st serve % dropped down to the 50s and Kasiri took full advantage especially on the 2nd serve allowing Pellerin to win just 2 points on it.

Mannarino will be tricky, he's ranked in the mid 400s and is 18. Last year was his breakthrough, he made 3 futures finals. From the stats he's got a pretty good serve, hit 6 aces in beating 4th seed Lugassy in rd1. On current form I think Kasiri has got a good chance in this one

I remember Kasiri being touted as a big hope a few years ago. Does anyone know what wen't wrong? Did he pick up an injury? Or did he just fail to live up to expectation?

All the hype about Kasiri was quite premature as although he'd made the junior Wimbledon final, he'd done hardly anything in senior events, unlike Andy who'd got a senior ranking in the 400s when he was the US Open juniors.

Kasiri has had a lot of injury problems. He's had quite a bit of trouble with his right shoulder, problems with damaged tissue etc. He's also had a lot of problems with coaches...like Boggo he's been accused of a poor work ethic and had LTA funding withdrawn, one coach said that all he wanted to do was exchange forehand all day long and wouldn't work on his serve. However, as with Boggo it's best not to read too much into this story...there could have been other issues between the LTA and Kasiri

I didn't know that Kasiri spent some time at IMG!

Yep, though he didn't get offered a scholarship to go there, his parents paid the full fees.

I see. That costs more than 70,000 dollars for two years (I think).

Unfortunately Miles just ended up with a breadstick today

A Mannarino (Fra) bt M Kasiri (GB) 6-0, 6-1

Not quite sure what happened there !  Miles served pretty well again: 66% 1st serves, but Mannarino must have returned extremely well as Miles won just 41% of the points on his 1st serve and 29% of the pts on his 2nd serve.

Mannarino lost just 2 pts on his 1st serve and won 56% on his 2nd serve.

Miles needs to put this one behind him, he's had a great series of wins here and on to Barnstaple now next week, hopefully he'll get a wildcard
