Two great results there, Brewer knocking out a player ranked around 400 places higher and Smith getting revenge for his loss to Darcis in Sunderland in January.
Shame Thornley wasn't able to get his 2nd ranking point, that was a real opportunity missed.
Of the remaining matches, I can't see Tom Rushby beating the Belgian 4th seed Stefan Wauters. Wauters was top 250 last year, now he's ranked just outside the top 300. It's a shame as there's quite a few others in this draw who Rushby could have beaten.
Alex Miotto's opponent, Boris Opama is unranked but I doubt Alex will win as Opama beat several higher ranked opponents in the qualies in straight sets.

Sadly, you're right...
Boris Obama (Fra) bt Alexander Miotto (Gbr) 6-4 7-6 (10-8)
At least Miotto's match was closer than I thought, one of those ones where if he'd managed to nick the 2nd set it could have turned in his favour.
Wauters is an experienced guy...solid top 300 player, Rushby isn't playing consistently enough at the moment to trouble players like him. Hopefully that will change soon, he aims to break top 400 in the first half of this year, tough ask but if he gets a few nicer draws I think that he might have a shot. He'll probably have to play some more overseas tournaments to do so as these GB futures are so strong. Stephane Robert (4th seed) was playing in the main draw of Wroclaw 125K last week !
Ah well it was Morgan's first match indoors of 2007 and it's some change from clay ! Also, Marx is ranked about 200 places higher and is on form, he made a 15K final in Jan

At first sight, David looks to have a hopeless task, playing someone ranked over 500 places above him, but he has happy memories of playing Quereshi, having beaten him 4 & 2 on clay (i.e. crushed dung) in Sri Lanka in November 2005 when he was giving away 741 ranking places to him (1225/484), one of his best ever results! Can he repeat the feat indoors on carpet?

This is the 3rd of 22 15K events in GB this year. So far we have had only one person in the main draw excluding qualifiers and Wild cards (Lee Childs in F1). I can't understand why the LTA are not providing tournaments where our players could win some points rather than giving away all the prize money to overseas players. Some 10K events and even a 25K satellite would give those ranked 500 to 900 more of a chance. At the mo many are forced to travel abroad to try to pick up ranking points which surely is wrong?!
