Unranked Daniel Jewitt was the star of the day, beating a player in the top 1000 in straight sets. Jim May's dreadful start to the season continued. Otherwise, there were no shocks and we have 8 in the final qualifying round with at least two sure to make it to the main draw.

Thanks for the results Steven....great result for young Daniel...what is it with that name for young British tennis players...I make that Evans, Cox and now Jewit.
I have returned the favour to our friends on MTF and posted these results there !
I'm confused - why does Ross Connolly's win deserve a ???
I'm tempted to say it's because Johnny doesn't have to eat his house, but in fact it was a mistake (now corrected) and just a coincidence that it occurred on that result!

Quite a win for Jewitt....hopefully he kept that form up today and reached the main draw.
Two interesting matches took places: Rushby v Irwin, Kennaugh v Brewer. Rushby has a 3-0 head-to-head record against Irwin and has won the last two in straights. I wonder how much that amazing match against Allinson yesterday, took out of him. Kennaugh beat Brewer 6-2, 7-6 on clay in 2005. He's more consistent but Brewer has more weapons and is a harder hitter.
Hopefully Smith can continue his resurgence, he's a better player than any of the guys in the qualies here, hopefully the injuries of 2006 are behind him. He's beaten Melskens twice in the past.
He has a main draw wildcard, was a bit pissed off as he turned up for the qualies and signed in and then found out he'd got a wildcard and so he's had to pay to stay in Barnstaple for 2 days before he plays.
He's got a tough draw unfortunately, he plays 6th seed Freddy Nielsen in round 1. Nielsen is ranked 347, he was top 300 last year (career high: 292). However, he's lost his last 4 matches. Bladetiger wasn't impressed with Nielsen when he saw him in Shrewsbury last November so maybe Slabba has a chance.
Alex says that Nielsen has a good serve, hits very flat off both sides and has good hands.
He said that the Austrian experience was very tough, he wished that he'd brought clay shoes with him even though it was indoors as it so slippery, impossibly to move.
He's good to Portugal for 2 weeks of futures on hard courts at the end of February
He told me that Seator lost in the final qualifying round today
