Strange. I don't have that problem; it is certainly slow, but works eventually. Other people seem to have been able to start new threads too.  Maybe you just hit on a time when they were tweaking something?

Richard is now 1st Alt for both Besancon MD and Rotterdam Q, so virtually certain to end up able to play in either. Which would you go for if you were him?

I've set up a poll at http://members3.boardhost.com/rusedski/msg/1171621047.html so if you want to vote in that, we'll have two boards' worth of input and I'll post the results here later.

Of course, no doubt Richard has already decided by now, but it doesn't have to stop us speculating.

personally I'd go for the challenger main draw.

What happened to Parmar last year was enticing but unlikely to occur again

He's no longer on the qualifying list for Rotterdam, so I can only presume that it means he is going to Besancon to play the challenger (he would have got in to Rotterdam Q's, as Cipolla at 199 is the last direct entry at the moment)

Going to Besancon seems more sensible, the Rotterdam entry list is super-strong so the qualies draw will be very tough and it's more than likely Richard would end the week with nothing if he went there.

He's had success in French challengers before, Besancon courts should suit his game and with a good draw he'll have a decent chance of winning a few rounds there.

Bloomers was 1st ALT for the Main Draw in Bescanon so that probably means he has a place in the main draw hence not in qualies.
