RE: Waikoloa Challenger 2007

The mens singles final follows the womens final and the mens doubles final tonight so result for Jamie will probably come in a bit later than yesterday...

Unfortunately Russell didn't choke... he won  61 64.  An excellent week for Jamie nonetheless

That doesn't take anything away from Jamie's week. That was Russell's 15th Challenger match win in a row (14 of them in straights) and Jamie took 5 times as many games off Russell as he's lost in each of his last two Finals!

Russell - the Rogi of the Challenger circuit ...

Certainly a good week for Baker. Shame he lost in the final, but as known Russell has been doing quite well on the challenger circuit. So it's good to see Baker compete against him better than previous opponents he's faced in finals. So it's up from here on in for Baker

I'm sure that he'll win a Challenger this year.

Qualifying and then reaching the finals is a great achievement. The new ranking will get him a direct entry into most events!

Fantastic performance!  I had no idea he was even playing, I was just idly looking at the rankings of the Brits on the ATP website to see that Jamie has jumped 68 places in one go!  Lets hope he can back up this performance with another few wins.  He must be feeling so good right now!  And he'll even have some pocket money to spend....

Luckily, he's unlikely to have to face Michael Russell again: he's risen to world number 95, and surely will be playing the ATP circuit rather than the Challengers from now on.

Well done to Jamie. Russell put up a darn good fight against Hewitt in the AO, never mind his challenger wins, so he was a step too far this time. Fantastic rise in ranking for Jamie - onward and upward!

great effort by jamie, it was always going to eb a big ask going into the finl, against an on form player esp after qualyfing, now he knows he can reach finals, its taking the next step, as its noit just aboutt he tennis then, its about the pressure of the match, boggo lost his st two challenger finals, but now he wins them more often than not.

its good to see someone doing well on the hard courts since the big man, as al has never quite matched up there, if josh and jamie can both play well that will be great for us, as from there i think they can play well on most surafces

onwards and upwards from here for jamie
