There are no emoticons that can express my glee!! Jamie Baker has surprised me nearly everyday this week!! A superb run, and yes he's had luck in the draw but as they saw you can only beat the player on the other side of the net and the end of last year Jamie just wasn't doing that. Once again he is looking like a real prospect for British(/Scottish for those who prefer) tennis and I couldn't be happier.
Regardless of whether it's Lu or Russell he faces tomorrow it's a tough ask, both are inside the top 150. Lu made the second round of the AO beating Gruel and going out to Youzhny. Whereas Russell won Noumea, the first challenger of the year and then qualified for the AO, pushing Hewitt to five sets. Take your pick as to who you'd prefer!
Good luck to Jamie, on this form I wouldn't like to predict a loss, and I'm hoping for a win.

ATP drawsheet now says Jamie is to play Russell in the final.

Wow, it's unusual for the ATP site to show an incorrect result (they're usually slow but accurate), anyway ...
(5) Michael Russell (USA) WR 114 is a 28-year-old who was ranked as high as 85 way back in August 2001.
He has had an unbelievable last couple of months, winning his last two Challengers (Maui and New Caledonia) and indeed he is on a winning streak of 14 Challenger matches in a row, in which he has lost just one set (winning 28), and he has won his last two Finals 0 & 1 v Guez and 1 & 0 v Warburg, both good players.
He also qualified for the AO, where he led Lleyton Hewitt 3 & 2 before losing in 5 sets.
So, it's not looking great for Jamie.

Michael Russell was 2 sets to love up against Kuerten in the 4th round of the 2001 French Open, and had at least 1 (might have been 2 or 3) match points in the third set.
I believe that this is one of the only times that the winner of a Major has saved match points on the way to the title.

Well at least Jamie must know that Russell is clearly a choker.
(But then choking in front of 20,000 screaming Frogs on Philippe Chatrier is perhaps a different proposition to choking in front of 2 men and a dog in Hawaiii!)
