Week 32 - Nordic Naturals Challenger - Aptos, CA, USA ($100,000) (hard)

Great stuff Jay. I missed Jay's heroics at Binghampton whilst away but tell me someone, did he make top 200 as a teenager in the live rankings? I think he missed by days for the official points.

Good question.

And delving back into the Binghamton thread I am now pretty sure, as was my initial thought, that no he didn't quite make top 200 as a teenager in the live rankings.

His birthday was Friday 27th July when he won his QF, taking him to 272 points, which would not have been enough.

On Saturday 28th July he won his SF and the initial 48 runners-up points took him to 291 points and live rankings top 200.

Certainly if I am right about the day of the SF he didn't quite make it and it seems pretty clear that that was on the Saturday, the day after Jay's 20th birthday.

After winning the final he was WR 175 on 323 points in the official 30th July rankings.

Liam takes the set 6-3. He could really do with a solid win here. Actually, he could do with ANY kind of a win here.

Vamos Liam.

Just won the set 6-3.

Perhaps he plays better when he is not the favourite.

Keep going Liam

Well, Liam most certainly deserved that set, and wins it 6-3

(But you're always a bit nervous with Liam at the moment - keep it going, Broady)

Thanks Indiana, so very close on that measure, been rooting for him to hit this milestone for some months. Certainly fab to see him smash the 200 at any rate now.

A superb defensive get there on BP from Liam and he stays in the point to convert for *1-0 in the 2nd.

Never in doubt...

 L32:  Christopher Eubanks (USA) WR 236 defeated (Q) Alex Ward WR 323 by 3 & 4

L32:  Liam Broady WR 189 defeated Marc Polmans (AUS) WR 181 by 3 & 4

Only trouble is:

L16: (7) Jay Clarke WR 175 vs Liam Broady WR 189  hmm

Finally! Good to see Liam winning again but shame it is Jay in the next round. My loyalties are split but on balance I think Liam needs this more than Jay right now and so I hope he can come through, he has a lot of points coming off in the next couple of months so needs a few deep runs to maintain a ranking around the top 200.

Call me Vandenburg

So you don't think Evo is going to make it back then ?

now that's interesting,  I'm a big Dan fan, but I've always thought we'd see an initial surge and then a dip and another surge with Dan, and in general runs of in and out over the next year. I think he will make top 200, he should get close to the top 100 but my instinct is he won't make it back to the top 100. I'd be sad if that was the case but my instinct is Dan will try for two years and fail to make that level and then retire. Don't ask me to justify that it is just an instinct.

Well done to Liam, much needed. No idea who will out of Jay and Liam. Effectively playing to be Gb number 3. I'll go Liam to outfox Jay on this occasion.
