Week 31 - ITF ($25K) - Woking, GBR Hard

R1: Maia Lumsden (GBR) def. Angelica Moratelli (ITA) 6-3 6-3

Nice to see Maia on form again, dinking and bombing that ball around, that University tennis gold medal must have done her good !

But lissey bows out 6-3 6-2, but playing decent tennis.

Slow start from Beth, going a double break down. But after the change of ends takes 8 points in a row to pull one back. 2-3*

Beth got back to *5-5, but 3DF in a long game didn't help, and the set slipped away 5-7

Good to see streaming from two courts. Pity there isn't a stream from court B, where there are five consecutive matches involving Brits today.

Has anyone got a link for these that doesn't go through the ITF site please?  I'd like to have a look at Freya if possible.  Thanks

This should take you straight to the stream - if not, use the menu on the right, tennis is a few sports down

Thanks.  I know you've helped me with this before and I always forget to save the link.

Wonder where Emma R is?

Does seem strange that she made qualifying, but didn't sign in. Haven't seen any evidence of her playing since Wimbledon either.

I do hope that she's not going to be another Robbo.

She is still very young to be playing seniors. Maybe just cautious whenever in doubt about anything fitnesswise and that's fine.

Freya just about gets the first set, 6-4

And Eden just about loses the first set 5-7

Beth lost 5-7 5-7 to the WR303. I guess it just wasn't her day - only 51% first serve percentage and no aces.

The French girl Eden is playing is born 2001, with a junior ranking of 100 or so.

C'mon, Eden - hang tough !

Freya wins 6-4 6-2

Which is a very decent win against a girl with practically the same ranking as her.

Still think she's got a lot of potential to go higher.

But do wish she'd take the ball a bit earlier some times - she lets it drop so much that it giver her opponent so much time to get back in position and undoes all the benefit of her power.

And Eden, as requested, has rattled the youngster slightly and taken the second set 2-6.

Now to the important bit.

Fran was also playing catch up for a fair bit of that set but has managed to take it 6-4

Fran is a set up
Eden is level at one set all

Freya wins 6-4 6-2, winning on her 4th match point. A qualifier so on paper a more favourable path than some of the others but it's great that she is stringing wins together now, 5-2 now which is a million miles away from 2-11 or whatever it was during that Portugal/Asia/grass period and she probably lost to worse players during her time in Asia. Definitely something to build on.

So at least 3 are through and still a chance for more.
