I know Swiatek is the new coming superstar for a generation, but I didn't think she'd just totally dismiss Emma like this

Emma is playing OK here despite the scoreline, had many BPs and there have been some long games but she is just against a formidable opponent who is making an impact at senior level. Recent wins include Falconi, Duque, Chirico (x2), Kiick, reaching finals and winning ITFs in the USA, in the top 350 in the senior ranks and many are very encouraged by her. She's 2 years older as well.

Nice to see Emma on the board there and a good reaction from her as well.

Edit - game points not break points, Iga has largely been comfortable on serve.

Yes, very impressive by the Pole though the tennis scoring system ( which I love ) can be cruel.

Indeed crept over the hour and 63 points to 36 against the 17 yo WR 347.

Hope Emma is not too disheartened. She's on a very good path.

Experience and weight of shot proved to be Emma's undoing. She then tried to go for more and ended up missing. Classic playing somebody who's at a higher level than you.

It's been a good tournament for Emma. She still has 2 more junior Wimbledon's to play. I suspect next year she'll be a top 8 seed.

Not sure what her next plan are as she has't played all that much during the grass season. I suspect the Canadian Open and US open but will she play a few 15k's before? Maybe even Woking 25K?

Saw some of Emma's match and she came up against the best player I have seen at junior level for a while.
Emma made a lot of errors, which is not like her, but everything that she got back into court was getting thumped for winners.

Destined and Vic's match was very ordinary. One of the other girl looked about 12.

Thanks re that and indeed I see the Japanese pair have been particularly successful in doubles. Their junior rankings ( 11 for Naito and 14 for Sato ) are as usual for juniors combined rankings for singles & doubles ( with more emphasis on singles ).

In doubles as a partnership, they are not just the recent French Open RU but also within the last 8 months Australian Open SF and further Grade A success in winning the Trofio Bonfiglio title and Sato won the Orange Bowl with a different partner against Naito with her partner that week.

A more minor non counting success for them is the SF in the pre Wimbledon Roehampton G1 but at least that showed some decent form on grass.

I didn't see the match but these stats for the Japanese pair are extremely impressive so quite a scalp for our pair.

It is always interesting to look back at where Iga was two junior wimbledons back, over the last year Emma has only lost to very strong opponents, not once have I thought thats a bit of a slip or a step back.

As a year 10 pupil in full time school (although probably not going much) Emma has made the Wimbledon QFs. As to how fit or fatigued she is after such an intense run given the shoreline is also debatable. This period 15-18 is very challenging in terms of avoiding injury ie. not overplaying or playing when injured despite the temptation, Katie Swan has needed a bit of time and her growth in ranking been incremental. Katie Boulder lost a lot of time. I would be more than happy to see the same rate of development as KS.

Hopefully she will get some time off to rest with plenty and then focus on the US Open juniors.

In 2016 Iga had a grade 1 loss to Emily Appleton and a grade 2 to Ali Collins.

Welcome ! No idea about their opponents but, yes, a big well done to Destinee and Victoria too (which paulisi means too, he is very supportive of junior tennis, and GB junior tennis in particular; it was not a put-down of the GB girls, just a comment on how the match came across).

NB it took me a while looking at your name, thinking 'no snow about tennis' ....hmmm....curious.... smile
