Iga Swiatek won that, so the top seed is out. Emma plays a Roland Garros semifinalist, like her with a Pro ranking in the 800s

Well its a battle of the Canadian born 15 year olds tomorrow, Emma still a couple of months younger, hopefully shes fit enough to give it a real go if so should be a really tight one.

Destinee loses 6/0 6/4 - second set was completely on her racket. McNally was just tapping the ball into play, it was either a big shot from Destinee or a real sloppy error. Her serve is ridiculously weak - can't see her making much of an impression going forward with her career, college would probably be the best choice but she has some nice groundstrokes when they connect.

Up against Joanna Garland next who won her match today against a seed without dropping a game.  What is the history with Joanna?  I see she was born in Stevenage?

Others know better but English dad and foreign (Chinese Taipei, I assume) mum. And choses to play for TPE - no real idea why as she's based here in the UK for at least a lot of the time - plays county tennis here etc.

I see Swiatek is also through. That first round draw was a brutal one for both, no surprise at all that the top seed went. Iga doesn't play many junior events these days or otherwise would have easily been seeded, she's not long turned 17 and is already at #347 in the WTA rankings - people are very excited about her future.

Emma vs Joanna is first on Court 18 with an 11am start so should be able to watch that match before the men's quarter final matches. Nice little boost for them going on one of the 6 main courts.

Quite strange, one born in the UK with a British parent but representing another country whereas the other was born in Canada, doesn't have a British parent but representing GB.

All part of the wonderful culture melting pot that is the U.K. Emma is a pretty typical product of a south east London grammar school apart from being amazing at tennis. Joanna appears to be the daughter of a British Tennis coach now coaching in Chinese Tiapei

Watched quite a bit of the GB girls doubles matches today. Both pairs fought back well from losing positions in the last set they played. First time Erin & Sonay have played together so they did a great job. Spoke to Erin's parents afterwards. Both thrilled with the win, dad especially gobsmacked. Disappointed that Erin didn't get a singles WC.
Also watched Destinee's singles - don't think she won a single service game but she was certainly better in set 2 or, at least, took advantage of poorer play from Caty.

 I think he is now back in the UK, working for a coaching set-up based in Cambridgeshire/Herfordshire/Bedofrishire.
