RE: Week 23 - ITF ($25K) - Obidos, Portugal Carpet

The mysterious MD is still not up but tomorrow's OOP is and Maia - seeded 8 not 7 is playing a qualifier smile

Now the MD is up and Fran also gets a qualifier. She is not on tomorrow's OOP, yet anyway.

Taking nothing for granted and I'm not going to pretend I know the respective opponents, but you'd surely have taken those if offered.

They put on a few tournaments in Obidos.

The new Antalya? Don't recall so many in previous years.

I lost count - maybe 6 in total including another one next week ? There aren't any more scheduled after that (so far !)

Yes, 6 including next week. The Portuguese Fed schedule has another 3 listed for the 3 weeks from 22 September - not in ITF calendar yet.

Looks a decent venue, I watched several streamed matches from there in April

That result alone should lift Soumeya about 200 places and into the top 1000 doubles. It doubles her current points tally and is her first counter that is more than 1 point.

Great for Soumeya! She is such a doubles enthusiast and has had lots of bad luck with not getting into events recently. I think she and her partner could go a long way in this event!

If she progresses to the 2nd round Francesca is likely to play the top seed Dejana Radanovic 271.

Soumeya needs more than 1 pt. - 2 coming off Monday. Another 3 come off in June-August. Will keep her safe until November.

Ignore post - didn't realise this was a 25k no

Yes, Maia got taken out completely in the second set, she won only 1 more point 6 in all, to lose it 0-6. Imagine her opponent stepped up a few gears there, so hope Maia herself can find one or two more the final set. Promising junior or not, Maia should be beating Gabriella.. and she has started the final set much more positively and thankfully has not just held her first serve for a while, but broken too. Now need to keep going Maia!

6-4 0-6 *2-0

Maia won eventually next serve round. A helpful 5 pts to start smile Gabriella will be ruing the fact that she won on points 75-71 but lost the match relatively easily in the end.

R32: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [8] 424 beat Gabriella DA SILVA FICK (AUS) [Q] 869 (CH:798 July 17) 17yrs (JCH:212 Jan 17) 6-4 0-6 6-3

R16: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [8] 424 vs Valeria SOLOVYEVA (RUS) 548 (CH:163 May 13)
