Boys & Girls: 54th Astrid Bowl Charleroi, Belgian International Junior Championships, clay - Grade 1 (Week 22)

We only really have insight into the results our juniors are getting on court and relative to our other very good 2001 group members some in the academic year below, Anton played high level tournaments but just slipped back a little during his GCSE year so doesnt quite have the ranking to get into RG, he seems to be making a good start to this summer so far.

Cruise he continued to do for the third successive match to reach his maiden G1 final. Should he win that then he will probably crack the top 50

The final has just started with live scores and a live stream (mediocre quality). Anton is in the dark outfit and baseball cap

Anton lost 5 games in a row from 2-1 to lose the first set 6-2

From what I saw Damien had more clay court guile and deserved to win - he played some exquisite drop shots whereas Anton looked like he had been just given the technique as a present to try out as much as possible - with mixed results. Nevertheless Anton clearly has weapons which will help his chances of a pro career

(12) Damien Wenger (SUI) d. Anton Matusevich 6-2 6-4

Congrats to Anton for a very good run.

Well done to USA's Alexa Young, too, born Sept. 2002, ranked JWR 7, who did the double here. That'll be a big points boost for her too.
