What happened to James Ward this week?

He was only an alt for a challenger. Players often enter challengers with no intention of playing unless they make the main draw (there is no qualifying entry list).

So, it's Friday morning and we've still got 9 men on course in the singles.... and none of them in the top 300.....

Now, I realise that the rain in Dublin has helped out here but it's still the largest number I can remember for quite some time/ever?

With Ryan, Tom and Lloyd's L16 wins in Dublin today all 9 reached their respective QFs so a nice statistic that in the end the weather merely delayed.

Two others have now been beaten in the QFs. But hopefully we will get a few through to at least their SFs over and above the one guaranteed.

The QFs as well thereafter got much better with just one further loss apart from the all British match.

So 5 of these 9 non top 300ers ( well for now says Jay ) moved on into the Saturday SFs. Actually the other 4 remaining apart from Jay are Richard at WR 769 and three outside the top 1000 in the current rankings ( Ryan, Tom and Julian ). Some really good performances down the rankings which I hope are recognised by the LTA with at least a mention or two.

And #25 in the top 25 list is going to look healthier than for quite  a while on Monday week ( in a moving feast it is now Scott Clayton on 15 points though Julian Cash this week or James Ward next could even push him out ).

A few more weeks like this and I will be reviving the "20 in the top 500" thread. That one's been quiet for a while now.

And overall it just seems to get better each day

Pity about Jay ( but pretty decent transfer to clay ) but that was 4 out of our 5 semi finalists into their respective finals and all ranked outside the top 750.

One win, one loss clearly from the all GB final played yesterday. All the best to Richard and Julian today.

Ah didn't get better on the final day.

But what a good week and there's going to be some real shaking up of the bottom half of the top 25 table coming. Keep Steven on his toes
