Wimbledon Ladies Qualifying

I know the draw has not come out yet, but i figured I'd start a thread anyway. I guess this will be as good a place as any for draws and results.

I'm going Tuesday and have a spare ticket. Does anybody want it? I'm not looking for any money, would just be nice to see it go to a good home. Do feel free to buy me an ice cream though....

Alex

Waiting for those all important draws - I'm really hopeful that we'll get 2 or 3 British women through from qualification to the main draw this year - Katie Swan and Harriet Dart are great youngsters, and Tara Moore will have a real point to prove - I can't believe she wasn't added to the main draw wildcards, and hopefully she will come through and prove the sub-committee wrong. Was her non-selection due to homophobia or her being seen as no longer a young improving player? - who knows, but after her great win against Van Uytvanck last year, she should be justifiably very angry and disappointed not to have got a main draw wildcard.

Obviously hoping all the Brits get good draws - I hear that the Dutch player, Arantxa Rus is seriously coming in to form - she had a great couple of wins at Hertogenbosch recently that suggests she is returning to the form that saw her put out Sam Stosur (then defending champion) here. I was a very impressed spectator at courtside for that one and think she is a player of much greater potential than her ranking would suggest and who all the Brits would do well to avoid; there are a few others but I'm still really optimistic for our women, and it will be fascinating to see how Maia and Eden get on against much higher ranked players, and how all the Brits fare in the next few days. Good luck everyone, in case any of you read this, and have lots of self belief, because there are lots of very mediocre players ranked 109 or less who can easily be beaten by any of our British women, if they play at their best on the day, and also lots of the younger foreign players really struggle on grass as they have had little, or in some cases, no experience of playing on it.

I ll make an assessment when I see the draw but Gabi to come through is my hunch and maybe 1 other.

Well the draw is out now and Gabi has by far the most disastrous draw. Alison van Uytvanck (q2) WR 98 first up cry

The others mostly have reasonable draws though at least a couple more face lower seeds.

And Katy Dunne, if she were to win her first match against Ivana Jorovic (SRB), WR182, which is much more feasible, will play the winner of Gabi's match - so she could get the q2 seed in the second round.

Katie Swan (358) vs Nigina ABDURAIMOVA (UZB) WR225

If they win, Freya and Maia would play each other in round 2. Sadly I think that is unlikely for both of them.

I think Harriet and Tara could well win, both Katies might do.

Yes, tougher QR1 draws than for the GB men (and some of the better hopes have the toughest draws), though there aren't so many draws v direct entrants outside the top 200 to be had given that the women's Q draw has only 96 players to the men's 128:

QR1: (wc) Gabriella Taylor WR 283 v (q2) Alison van Uytvanck (BEL) WR 98 (CH 41 in 2015)
QR1: (wc) Katy Dunne WR 286 v Ivana Jorovic (SRB) WR 182 (CH 134 last Oct)
QR1: (wc) Eden Silva WR 594 v (q15) Jasmine Paolini (ITA) WR 132 (CH 130 last week)
QR1: (wc) Harriet Dart WR 277 v Cagla Buyukakcay (TUR) WR 175 (CH 60 in 2016) (*)
QR1: Tara Moore WR 216 v Irina Falconi (USA) WR 246 (CH 63 in 2016)
QR1: (wc) Katie Swan WR 358 v Nigina Abduraimova (UZB) WR 225 (CH 144 in 2014)
QR1: (wc) Freya Christie WR 388 v Destanee Aiava (AUS) WR 170 (=CH)
QR1: (wc) Maia Lumsden WR 677 Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) WR 141 (CH 138 last week)

(*) H2H 0-2, Harriet lost 3 & 5 then 0 & 3 in UK 25Ks in 2014

Abduraimova has done well on Japanese 'grass', including a 50K title, but lost her only previous Wimbledon QR1 match (in 2015 v Vickery) 0 & 1

Krejcikova reached the Nürnberg WTA final from qualifying last month but hasn't played on tour since.

The winners of the first two matches above will play each other in QR2, as will the winners of the last two matches.

I'm really sad to see Gabi with such a tough opening draw. Really puts a dampener on things. I would rate Alison the toughest player to beat in the whole qualifying draw. Ons Jabeur is the third seed, and I'd give Gabi a good chance against her, and even Aleksandra Krunic the top q seed I would not rate so high. Well that's the way it is.

Of the others, Tara is the only player men or women to be ranked higher than their opponent, and Katy, Katie and Harriet have chances. Three would be good, four would be a bonus, two wouldn't surprise me.

I think it's disgusting she should have been in the main draw. Robson has done nothing at Wimbledon since she was injured but goes into the main draw why?

Some are favoured, some are not. I just really hope that Tara wins some matches though... she needs a confidence boost at the moment, as well as to prove a point.

I ll take 3/8 wins as well, 3,1,1 breakdown Gabi, Katy and Tara going through. Then just Gabi after that to qualify as well.
