Big gap in class between WR27 and WR 65 wink

Katy is a real fighter, not certain if Gabi can make a fight of this.

I think it's useful occasionally to see the standard that you aspire too and Gabi Taylor definitely has the potential to be a top 100 player.

Well it might not take Lauren Davis quite so long. Gabi's first point won was the 12th of the match, as the score shoots to 0-3 and Gabi is two breaks of serve down. WR 27 vs WR 284. I'm not sure there is a whole lot of point to this

That's the spirit   no

First set bagel from Davis to Gabi who only won 8 points.

She's obviously lulling her opponent into a false sense of security....

Well she has lost the first set in 22 mins and won 8 points. I'm sorry, Gabi is a very promising up and coming player, and I'm looking forward to seeing her progress, but I'd rather see her in more competitive situations now. Maybe Gabi might feel it's an education, but there is also a risk to player's confidence in such situations too.

Katy Dunne's match was way, way more tight than expected or ranking would indicate.

Gabi's (so far) is way more one-sided than one would have hoped.

But that's tennis - you can't say Gabi shouldn't be playing because she'd being beaten up. But Katy most certainly should have played because she got so close to winning.

If (somehow) she were playing a whole heap of matches like this, it'd be different (rather like Laura R was on her protected ranking).

I agree, it's Tennis and women's tennis can be like this occasionally. Gabi will come back stronger and with more experience. She seems quite level headed, so even if it's a double bagel then it won't matter too much long term.

There is also the fact she has qualies in a few days time as well so that may be a factor the way this match has gone.

 Yes, ok, I accept that.

I also wouldn't worry - I think there is zero chance that she'll have her confidence knocked. At that age, and with that ranking difference, it doesn't matter.
As you say, Jaggy, she might also be practising certain plays, in preparation for Wimbly qualis.

It's far more damaging to confidence when you lose an important, close match that you really ought to have won - Freya's match at Wimbly qualis last year springs to mind....she was SO gutted, I've never seen anyone so poleaxed by a loss, and - although there may be 101 other thins too - she really doesn't seem to have recovered....

I ll stick my neck out and say Gabi will qualify for Wimbledon and be the only one on either men's or women's side to do so.

Harriet lost 6-2, 6-2

Had a few break points for 3-3. Schiavone saved all break points faced (9/9) while Harriet only saved 1 of 5.
