Week 25 - ATP 500 - The Aegon Championships, The Queen's Club (grass)

And Mr Broady leads 5-2 in the final set. I should have gone. Sigh.

FQR:  (qWC) Liam Broady WR 405 vs (qWC) Denis Shapovalov (CAN) WR 195 (CH = 172 in April)

Not sure I wouldn't have preferred him to be facing the q7, Reilly Opelka...

Liam like the grass. I always thought he had a chance today. I don't know how much Tiafoe has played on the green stuff but regardless of that, this is a terrific win for Liam. And next up, he will play someone he has already beaten once this year (Shapovalov) so don't rule out Liam making it to the MD.

Liam will have plenty of belief going into this match. From memory, they are 1-1 on the H2H this year, so no reason Liam can't win again and he will know it.

At least he picks up 10 points & 3,010 euros for that. smile

This is only Mr Tiafoe's second (non-juniors) tournament on grass - Queen's qualies last year were his first. But even so, I did not expect that. Must have been a fascinating match - and wonderful for Mr Broady. Points, confidence - and on the big stage, so to speak. So hoping someone from the board was there ....

Aljaz would only be one place away now. I think. WOuld he play in the event he got into first (having turned down a Queens WC?)

No sign of him in the Halle main draw.  I wonder...

Would love to see Mr Broady qualify. Think Shapovalov will be tough. Interesting that the qualies draw includes three Wimbledon boys singles champions (Shapovalov, Opelka, Chardy), two singles finalists (Broady, Kozlov), two boys doubles champions (PHH and Broady), and four doubles finalists (Shapovalov, Opelka, Kozlov, and Santillan).

Fairly certain that someone mentioned he was playing Queens having made it in as a DA.
