Lee Sport Dude

I have a court on reserve at all times there. I train my boys all the time. I'll pull some strings.

So, great, that Lee Sport Dude (!) is training his boys there and using the court - but having a court on reserve ???? The whole time ???? Sorry ???? Is that a good use of the courts ???? Not to mention that there are 'strings to pull' ....

Oh dear ....

First of all, a mea-culpa, as I believe I may have previously joined the chorus of disapproval over the LTA's investment of £12,000 in a sofa...

That investment is now starting to really pay off, on the women's side at least. With JoKo equalling Laura's CH last week, on Clare Balding's chaise longue, and surpassing it while reposing on wossy's designer settee this week; while simultaneously NaomiB shoots every upwards, reclining on Ethihad's well-appointed soft furnishings, and Heather also moving up a place or two, the sofa is now starting to look like the one useful feature of the NTC.

I hope that it will be made fully available for some of the lower-level players to work on their own technique.

And they could perhaps consider becoming a dual-purpose DFS warehouse/tennis training centre. The more sofas the better!

Maybe Lee Sport Dude is our own Harry Hopman in the making.

We may be sitting here just a handful of years away from our greatest period of dominance in British tennis.

Nice to know that even if they can't get any tennis of any significance going on there, at least they're having good, ol' swinging parties at the NTC centre cry

I think the party referred to was at the Bank of England. Unfortunately the NTC bedrooms face the BoE

Good to see the NTC looking a bit more 'in use' than it is sometimes.

Lots of youngsters there - both boys and girls, including many not involved in the ITF event.

Ryan Storrie, Ali Gray, Ewan Moore, Fran Jones, Jodie B, Megan Davies....as well as several others whose faces were instantly familiar but couldn't put a name to.

Lots of even younger youngsters, too, whom I didn't recognise.

Also saw Alex Ward looking fit and well, but not actually playing, so who knows....

There was an u-12 boot camp there last week. I'm guessing the older ones have been invited down this week. Perhaps that is why Megan is not seemingly playing this week.

It's a very young group, plenty of older players (at that age group) written off by LTA far too early.

How many staff though!

Maybe the sorely under-used NTC would like to consider this as an option???

Maybe it's coz there's not much tennis around at the moment but I enjoyed this little video that the LTA recently posted of our players training at the NTC:
