Latest use for the NTC

The NTC may no longer be an option for British players but that doesn't mean the modern and lavish facility is going to waste.

For a probable £100 a day, Grigor the ninja has never seen a better training pad. The hardest part must be deciding exactly where to put the cones, given he has the whole place to himself. But shhhh, don't ruin it and let any of the other players know about this place.

This absolutely cracked me up:

Quote:

"The National Tennis Centre is the spiritual home and base for Britain's top tennis players."

'Spiritual home' - yeah, right . . . Is someone trying to be funny??????? You've got to laugh or you'd cry.....

And then when you go to the LTA's page for the National Tennis Centre, all it talks about is weekend tennis breaks, awaydays, meeting rooms and a lecture theatre.....

. . . . Lord, give us strength . . .

Didn't exactly take himto the next level. Maybe he's angling to become Judy's next 'Strictly' partner.

Understandable.  I hear the LTA have quite the habit of dropping them.

Ba boom.

well, the Naturist Tennis Club in Warlingham, Surrey might be looking for new premises:

The NTC is just down the road and deserted so no offence caused and nice and private - sounds like a business plan to me.

Very funny. They should get Vilas in to teach them how to hit the 'Big Willy'.

Meanwhile the USTA break ground on a 63 acre site in Florida, building a new 100 plus courts facility. Apart from pro player development, they're looking to reach out right across the Florida tennis community, young and old.

Interestingly, the reputed $60 million cost is broadly equivalent to the £40 million spent on the LTA's far smaller site at Roehampton.

Andy's comment just after the Davis Cup victory:

"I went to the National Centre to practise for a couple of days after a tournament in Shanghai, said Murray. I was there on a Monday at two or three oclock, and then on Tuesday at the same time, and there was not one person using any of the indoor courts and not one person in the gym.

I took photos of it because the place cost £40m and there are no people. No players practising, nothing going on at all, like empty. And, you know, it doesnt necessarily have to be performance players involved but to have nothing is such a shame, to walk in and find nobody there."

i use the ntc for performance players a couple of times a week. We would like to use the gym, but are not allowed to.

Now the DC team have given the debate more profile I would invite the LTA to have an external debate with all those interested, invited to be involved.

This actually happened when David Felagate got the job. It was a very passionate exchange of views with about 100 of us at Bath Uni. The meeting was chaired by Felgate with Jeremy Bates and Mark Petchey. At the time I thought it was an incredible move forwards as the collective experience there was vast.

We were promised it would be a regular thing.................it never happened again.

I get the impression communication is the LTA weakest activity.

There seems to be no discussion with the players, coaches, parents or counties about strategies or development.
