RE: Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open (men's)

Five sets it is. I have no idea who is going to win this. Djokovic seems so much stronger but keeps letting it go!

Novak wins, but not showing the form he had so far. Should be a good final!

I expect to see a completely different Djokovic in the final.

Andy, forget that you have never beaten Novak in Oz finals, just remember you beat him in two of the slam finals you played.

Indeed, and Andy has a better Slam final record against Serbs compared to Swiss.

So Andy has still only played Novak and Roger in slam finals.

A few stats from Andy's previous 7 Slam finals :

Matches : 2-5. vs Djokovic : 2-2

Aus Open : 0-3. vs Djokovic : 0-2

Sets : 8-17. vs Djokovic : 7-8

Games : 111-142. vs Djokovic 71-81

1st Sets : 4-3. vs Djokovic 3-1

5 set matches : 1-0. vs Djokovic 1-0

Tiebreaks : 2-2. vs Djokovic 2-1

Clearly the balances between totals and vs Djokovic are vs Federer.

Andy has always been outranked going into finals ( and after them ) and outseeded. In this latest final he will be again.

does anyone know how they choose which half of the drawer goes first in the Australian Open? I know Wimbledon go with the reigning champion so was surprised that it was not Stan's half that started.

psychologically it must help in being ahead and getting the win first but does an extra day off disrupt the flow. Think Andy may value his extra day though.

I strongly suspect that the tv companies have a large say - so that they get what should be good matches (or local players) at the peak times. Ratty can no doubt rattle off the laws of probability, but at the USO Andy Roddick ALWAYS got favourable playing times.

Andy's definitely been playing it safe in the pressers, as all of the quotes flying around and certainly hyping Nole as the favourite. Presumably Andy doesn't find it as far-fetched as he claimed, at least.

This is what I was scared of, Djokers on his A game.
