It was in many ways the field from Heaven for Heather ( though Heaven just opened its gates and Heather powered through ).

Playing near her best, she is very competitive against ( and indeed I think had maybe already won more than she had lost against players in the 25 to 50 range ).

Hobart gave her such players, she was playing very well, beat them all and must have gained such great preparation ( as long as not too much ! ) and confidence.

Sydney had the the really top stars and a possible first round exit with an unkind draw. Though hopefully this year will see her competing closer with them and beating some !

Gooood tournament choice, Heather.

Well if her new career high of 38 is confirmed then Heather will have reached my predicted end of year ranking after just one tournament,  and I am not alone 38 was her average of predicted rankings.

I agree with Indy I think Hev could enter a few more International tournaments, where she will almost certainly be seeded now, and make good progress rather than the premier ones where she could face a top 20 player in round 1 or 2. Next goal to get that ranking upto 32-33 to be seeded for Prem M and grand slams.

Looks like after FED cup. Heather will play Dubai and Doha, then i'd suspect Indian Wells and Miami. Would be good to se her seeded there.

I was a bit shocked, well more than a bit actually, to find that Jo Durie only won 2 single WTA titles despite reaching World  No.5.

Ann Hobbs also won 2 titles, Annabel Croft and Sara Gomer one each.

So unless I have missed someone the last British woman to win more than 2 WTA titles was Sue Barker - winning the last of her 12 titles in 1981.
