Might be an uphill struggle overall, but my Spidey-Sense for a point here somewhere is tingling nevertheless.

I really hope Dominique gets her 1st singles point here.  She has a CH doubles ranking of 1085, but having played 39 professional events and reached the MD on 14 occasions she has not picked up one singles point.  Fingers crossed.

I listened last night to Russell Fuller on R5L explaining how all the Spanish journalists had turned up to USO effectively treating it as a two week holiday because of Rafa's absence.

To them, and it seems to the Spanish public, that despite the mass of highly ranked and talented Spanish players - such that most every other nation is envious of them (especially on the men's side) - the attitude is apparently it's Rafa or nothing. Never mind the likes of Ferrer, Almagro, Carla Suárez Navarro, Muguruza and the many others; or whatever they might achieve, it apparently just doesn't register domestically on the radar even amongst those actively involved in the sport.

Contrast that outlook, anaesthetised to anything but the most fantastic success, to this forum, where any player, at any ranking (or none) has supporters pulling for them every point, and I'm very glad this place exists and is the way it is.

I'd also like to think that our tennis media, such as it is, would be excited by every top 50 player we had should we ever have any where near as many as Spain.

Oh Dominique. Hits a ridiculous 18 double faults (around 35% of total service points she lost) and loses 76(4) 61

Wow ! Eden takes out top seed and ex-junior WR 6 (only last year) - and they're both exactly the same age !

L32: Eden Silva WR 840 def. (1) Hsu Ching-Wen (TPE) WR 491 (= CH; 18yo, junior CH 6 early last year) 6-4 6-3

Excellent result :::)))

Super win for Eden. As has been mentioned before, it's so easy to forget how young she still is as she left juniors so early on.
