RE: Week 36 - ITF ($10K) - Antalya, Turkey Hard

Eden beats Hsu twice in the same day, as with her partner, Yumi Nakano, they recovered from an awful start to rally and beat the #3 seeds 0-6 6-4 [10-7]
Dominique, with Vasilisa Aponasenko, also won 6-2 6-4

I'm glad Dominique has got something out of the tournament.  I guess the longer she goes without that elusive singles point, the harder it becomes for her to play confidently enough to get one.  I've seen her at a few events.  She's one of those that looks really good on the practice court, but seems to get flustered and rushed on the match court.  She's certainly got the shots to get a few points, if not to go too far.

First set to Eden 6-2

Eden is becoming a really solid & regular performer at $10K now.
Her last 5 results at this level have been: QF, F, QF (Q), L16 (Q)

L16: Eden Silva WR 840 beat (Q) Vasilisa Aponasenko (RUS) UNR (17yo, junior CH 101 in Jan) by 2 & 4

In the QFs, she will probably play 8th seed Emma Laine, who is thrashing her R2 opponent. If so, H2H is 0-1, Laine having won 0 & 1 in Barnstaple qualifying back in 2011..

Well done Eden
If it is to be Laine, hopefully Eden's comparative improvement since the last meeting will tell in the scoreline.

Nice to see some progression from Eden and she is climbing up the rankings nicely.

She is entered for Shrewsbury, which I might be tempted to watch first day qualifiers as I've never seen Eden play.

Somebody on this forum said, I believe, that Eden had taken some time off (in the second half of last year?) to ponder whether she really wanted to be involved in tennis and to ask some fundamental questions (a bit in the Oli Golding style).

And decided that she did :::)))

I know one shouldn't read too much into one result but, anyway, here goes: I think her result against Hsu is quite illuminating, especially in light of the junior/senior correlation arguments.

Hsu and Eden are exactly the same age, Eden dropped out of juniors at 16 or so and battled her way, rather miserably at times, in senior 10ks; Hsu carried on in juniors and got to ITF WR 6 - a real world leader. And yet, at 18, Eden won in two comfy sets.

I would think Emma Laine is the favourite in the next round but good luck to Eden !

Eden lost 3-6 2-6
Closer than in 2011, at the finish it was still a Finnish win.

So, 5x as many games won as in 2011 ... and the QF points should see Eden hit another new career high around 810 on Monday week with no points to defend until March 2015

Eden now has 19 points from 9 counters, with as Steven says nothing to defend until March.

Can be a bit dubious to project, so let's project :)

If Eden built up a proportionate rankings points total of 34 points from a full 16 counters, that would have her probably ranked about WR 650, and with her points trend if anything on the up that doesn't seem unreasonable.

Eden & Yumi take the first set from the top seeds

They were an early break up in the second too, but have just been pulled back, 6-3 1-1*
