Week 31 - Challenger (€42,500) - Segovia, Spain (Hard)

Dan Cox, Edmund, Willis and Rice all got into the main draw DA.

On the other hand, Klein has to go through the hardship of qualifying.

QR1: (4) Brydan Klein WR 431 v Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela (MEX) WR 648 (CH 400, June 2013)

He is seeded to face sixth seed Carlos Gomez-Herrera (WR 444, CH 328 Sep 2013), in the FQR.

PS: Sorry if that was supposed to be someone else's job, but I needed something to block out the chug of an intra-European train.

Unfortunately it looks like I am not going to be able to make it, unless somebody gets to the semis. Next Sat is the first day I could feasibly travel. Sometimes, work really sucks.

Not great . . . :(

Dave Rice gets Kyle. Or Kyle gets Dave Rice. Or whatever way you want to look at it . ..

Marcus gets Chiudinelli, 5th seed

And Dan Cox gets 8th seed, Menendez- Maceiras

The seed in Kyle/Dave R's section of the draw is Marcel Ilhan, who is going to have even more travel issues than Kyle, as he is playing in the final in Kazakhstan tomorrow.

Pity for Marcus that in this rare foray into Challengers he gets such a draw. But that can happen and he has hardly had many challengers for it to generally "even out".

Indeed, could certainly have been generally much better. Still, all the best to the Brits.

Well at least we have got Marcus to a challenger event he needs to play at this level consistently if  he's going break into the top 250 .

I hope that he does well in the doubles and it restores the momentum

he was enjoying with Lewis until the Rome fiasco which certainly scuppered their wimby WC chances .

FQR:  (q4) Brydan Klein WR 431 (CH = 174 in June 2009) vs (q6) Carlos Gómez (ESP) WR 444 (CH = 328 in September last year)

The pair have never played one another before.

Disappointed to not see Lewis Burton play qualifying here after making his first futures final recently

Although is he fully fit at the moment after pulling out of Frinton?

Not the best draw for Marcus but I suppose that's the rub with challengers. Pretty confident that Kyle will beat Dave and perhaps Kyle can take advantage of the extra day he has on Astana finalist Ilhan in order to make another QF, possibly against Coxy who has a decent draw. Mixed draw but could've been worse.

Unless you know something I don't, Steven, I think you'll find that you've put the accent on Adrián is over the wrong "a" & if you insist on including Spanish players' matronymic, the two surnames should not be hyphenated.

I can't comment on the accent as I don't speak Spanish, but the name is hyphenated on the draw sheet, and on the ATP site.
