European League Club Tennis

And for our third participant this weekend:

Tara def. Maria Josee Martinez Sanchez 6-1 6-2

Unfortunately, she and Conny lost their doubles in a MTB and the team lost 2-4.

The team has finished third out of five.

Another of our players dipping his toe into French elite league tennis as Jonny Gray turned out today - and got a scorcher of a result

Playing their pool matches in DN1A, Jonny beat 23 year-old Kimmer Coppejans (BEL) WR 269, CH 97: 0-6 7-6 6-4.

The team drew 3-3.

Also, Emily Webley-Smith played at number 2 for her team, losing 0-6 5-7 to Irina Maria Bara. She also lost her dubs and the team lost 1-5.

I see that league tennis is under way in France - in some of the divisions anyway. As I gave up studying french after O-level, I struggle to navigate the web site, so will leave it to CD to post more info.

Although I did manage to see that Senlis beat Rivery 6-0 at the weekend, with Lucy Brown winning 0 & 2 in singles and 2 & 0 in doubles.

You're way ahead of me, the Addict

But Lucy's team is not in the National divisions now (it got relegated from Div 4 to pre-national division last year).

And it's only the pre-National divisions that have started.

And as there's over 100 teams in the National divisions, I don't really follow pre-Nat as well

(There's also regional level, and county level). So don't know if anyone else is playing that level.

NB The main divisions (Div 2 - Div 4) all start in early May. (The Elite divs played in November)

But well done to Lucy.

And to you too, the addict ! Eye on the ball.....

Actually, I just looked to see if Lucy was playng his year, and found the result. But I find your reports on the Brits in the league interesting, so keep an eye out for them.

French league tennis (for Div 1B, Div 2, Div 3 and Div 4) is due to kick off this weekend.

On the entry lists for the men are:

DN 1B

Scott Clayton
Patrick Ogier
Stuart Parker
Billy Harris
Josh Paris

Div 2

James Allemby
Matt Short
Jonny O'Mara
Rich Gabb
Jamie Feaver

DIv 3

Marcus Willis
Jack Carpenter
Dan Cox
Farris Gosea
Josh Goodall
Damon Roberts

Div 4

Tom Farquharson
Maniel Bains
Neil Pauffley
Keelan Oakley
Michael Nagler

It should be remembered, though, that team lists will list everyone and anyone who might play, so some of these will have no intention of playing.
However, Neil P and Josh P are the two main new names I noticed (and are listed as newly arrived players).

Not many British women playing in that league this year - I might even try and look for the results if I can get through the strange layout of the website

Yes, less than usual it seems. Although Tara and Em WS both played in the elite divisions in autumn so can't play this time in the lower divisions.

So, kicking off the season, Rich Gabb and Neil P both found the going very tough (particularly bad loss from Neil). Whilst Grandpas Josh Goodall, and Dan Cox came through with flying colours. Lovely clutch win from Billy too:

In DN 1B:

Stuart Parker -4/6 won against another -4/6 in two sets. But lost his dubs and team lost 2-4

In the Annecy team, Billy Harris N61 def. Ehrat N46 in a third-set tie-break - that must have been some atmosphere for Billy !
Josh Paris N73 lost to a N53 1 & 2 (Josh is overranked at N73)
Billy and Josh lost their dubs but the team won 4-2

Div 2

Rich Gabb N59 lost to Sadecky (-15) 6-1 7-6
Rich also lost his dubs and the team lost 1-5

DIv 3

Jack Carpenter -4/6 lost to Fourniere (-15) 7-6 2-6 6-4
But Jack won his doubles in a MTB. The team lost 1-5 though.

Dan Cox N74 beat a -2/6 in two easy sets.
Also won his dubs and the team drew 3-3

Josh Goodall -15 def. a -4/6 by 6-2 6-2.
He also won his doubles. But the team lost 2-4

Damon Roberts 0 lost 5-7 in the third set to a -2/6. Won his dubs. But team lost 2-4

Div 4

Tom Farquharson N59 def a -4/6 by 7-6 6-3.
Lost his dubs but the team won 4-2

Neil Pauffley N55 lost to a guy ranked 0 (!!!) in two sets.
Won his dubs but team lost 1-5

Michael Nagler ranked 15 (that's pretty low for team tennis) lost to 2/6 in two sets.
But he won his dubs and gave the team their only point as the team lost 1-5

Just to add that in Dv 3, Shelly Gerber (qui?), 3/6, def. a 5/6 in two sets, won her dubs and the team won too.

Well done, Shelly whoever-you-are......

Mens

In Div 1B, the result from St Malo is not in yet.

At Annecy, Billy Harris was beaten by Antoine Escoffier in two sets. As was Josh Paris. Both also lost their dubs and the team lost 1-5.

In Div 2, the Clamart team won 5-1. Jonny O'mara won his singles against Jorge Hernando Ruano in two sets (which was a good result). Rich Gabb won his match against a pretty lowly ranked player in two. The two Brits won their dubs, playing together and the team won 5-1/
